Nusa Penida Bali Indonesia – 8 Best Places to Stay
The magic of Nusa Penida seems to have no end – much like the colourful handkerchiefs in a clown’s sleeve, really. On the somewhat undeveloped island, there is a good supply of accommodation options in all budget ranges.
Budget
Let’s kick things off with the budget spots - Nusa Garden Bungalow. We remember being so confused when we arrived here. They have done a superb job of photographing the place, making it look a lot more tropical and out the bush than it really is. The property does have everything you see in the pictures, we just think that the pictures are a little old. While we were a little disappointed at first, the incredibly friendly and helpful manager more than made up for it. The rooms are very spacious and have what you need to get by for the night. There is good Wi-Fi at the on-site restaurant. The bungalows are really central, too They are close to a couple of small local stores and appear equidistant from all the spots you’re going to want to visit. The property is also just across from the beach. However, you’re not likely to spend much time there considering the kinds of beaches that dot the islands coastline. A room for the night will cost you around 160,000 IDR.
A strong competitor to this is Ramwan Guest House. The rooms go for a very similarly priced 170, 000 IDR. Where they outdo the competition is with their permanently available tea and coffee stand. Where they shine is their offering of free breakfast with your stay. People rave about the breakfast, too! Definitely worth checking out.
Mid-Range
The Waterside Inn is an absolutely fantastic bed and breakfast. It is our top pick for anyone looking for a spot to stay in the mid-range sector. The room’s walls are covered in wooden planks and the bed in white linen. The rooms all have access to the terrace that overlooks the sea, the infinity pool that also overlooks the sea, and the steps that end on the beach itself. To top it all off, the owner is a sweetheart and will cook you up breakfast each morning. All this comes for the bargain price of 670, 000 IDR.
On the upper end of the mid-range is Caspla Beach Hotel and Resto Bar. It is a very resort-like spot that will have your children itching to go if you show them a photo. It’s probably wise to surprise them if you do decide to go ahead with it. This may help with reducing the all too frequent iterations of “Are we there yet?” All in all, the resort is packed with loads of things to do for the whole family. Rooms go for around 1,200,000 IDR.
The Ring Sameton Resort Hotel is a little more upscale than this with furniture and decorations that are clearly targeting the more sophisticated type. That being said, it is far less tropical and is a good bit further away from the beach. To make up for it are the tremendous jungle views, an included breakfast, spacious rooms, a flat screen T.V and a minibar in your air-conditioned room. Rates float around the 950,000 IDR mark.
Top End
On the upper end of things, the prices never seem to reach outrageous levels. In fact, you can get your hands on something that is far beyond the look of a mid-range property for a price that doesn’t really seem to be too far removed from that same sector. A prime example of this is the WK Gamat Creative Resort. For just 1,600,000 IDR you could be living in your own villa for the night. With a private pool, an outdoor bathroom and well-designed interior, there is no doubt that you have struck gold here.
Coco Resort Penida is a great option for families. You won’t get your own pool, but the trade-off for an incredibly decorated thatch-roof hut may well just prove worth it. Besides, there is a pretty special pool in the resort – it’s just not all yours. You’re also a couple of minutes’ walk away from the beach. Also, the onsite restaurant is fantastic. They also offer car hire, water sports facilities and organise tours – all great news for families!
If you prefer upscale interiors, marble floors and jaw-dropping views from sensational infinity pools, then the Semabu Hills Hotel could probably help you out. Rooms are exceptionally well-priced and the list of included amenities is exhaustive. All this and a bag of chips for just 1,700,000 IDR.
