The respective bylaw on recreational and sports sites retribution was approved by the Klungkung Council last year.
To enter any of the three islands that belong to Nusa Penida district and are under the regency's authority overseas visitors will be required to pay INR 25,000 (slightly less than USD2) for adults and IDR 15,000 (slightly over USD1) for children.
The fee will be collected once per visit and will allow travellers to visit each of the three islands. The funds collected will be used by Nusa Penida administration to develop and improve infrastructure on the island. The authorities believe that tourists will consider the amount sensible and will not object paying the island entrance fee.
The three islands boast great diving sites and are a bird sanctuary. While Nusa Penida is the largest of the three, Nusa Lembongan is arguably the most developed one in terms of tourist infrastructure. Lately all the three are quickly getting popularity though the pace of life there remains quite slow compared to the bustle of the neighbouring Bali.

Klungkung regency administration, Bali, Indonesia, will levy a fee on foreign tourists visiting three popular islands near Bali, namely Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan effective from July, 8, this year.
