Quick and easy to book. It's cheap and convenient but dont expect any level of conform. They pack the minibus full and the driver randomly stops and gets out for like 5 mins.

Bus was almost 2 hours late but we got there safe and sound. I guess it happens. As long as we get there safely, I am okay with that.

The operator was very short and sharp and rude to me on the phone. I called to ask where their office was and let them know I might be 3 minutes late. I called and asked “Hello. Is English okay?” Meaning to ask if they could speak English and was going to explain what I meant. But immediately I was told “No! This is Thailand! Goodbye!” And they hung up the phone. Very unprofessional. Later when I arrived at 6PM they made me feel like a nuisance. They looked bored and angry that I was having a minor issue showing them my ticket. I would understand if we left at 6PM but we waited another 20 minutes at their company station before leaving.

Was worried we would’ve been late arriving for our 6PM appointment. No fault of the company or 12go but the grab map places the company in the wrong location at the top of the street and not at the bottom where it is. I understand that was our fault but it led to the issue I’m about to explain. I was still in the grab car at this state and thought I could call the company and let them know we might be late and to ask for a specific location of the company. I called them and they picked up. I asked immediately “Is English okay?” Meaning can you speak English okay. The woman on the other end of the line then simply said “No, this is Thailand. Goodbye!” And hung up the phone on me. Very impolite and unprofessional. When I finally got to the location at 6PM the staff seemed really disinterested and like I was being a nuisance to them for just trying to show them my tickets. The customer service was really bad.

Do you need a car to get around Bangkok?

Getting around Bangkok is convenient without a car, thanks to its extensive public transportation network. The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are efficient ways to navigate the city, covering most major areas and attractions. Fares typically range from 16 to 59 THB ($0.45 to $1.65).

Taxis are also widely available, with fares starting at 35 THB ($1) for the first kilometer. Ride-hailing services like Grab provide additional options. Tuk-tuks offer a more traditional experience, though fares should be negotiated beforehand, generally costing between 100 to 300 THB ($3 to $8) for short distances.

Traffic congestion is common, so public transport is often faster. Walking is suitable for exploring neighborhoods like Sukhumvit and Silom. Car rentals are available but not necessary for most visitors, and parking can be challenging.

Which part of Bangkok is best to stay in?

Sukhumvit is popular for its vibrant nightlife, shopping, and dining options, making it ideal for those seeking a lively atmosphere. Accommodation ranges from budget hostels to luxury hotels.

Silom is the financial district, offering a mix of business and leisure with its proximity to Lumpini Park and street markets.

For a more cultural experience, consider staying in the historic district around the Chao Phraya River, which provides access to landmarks such as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. The area has charming boutique hotels and traditional guesthouses.

Lastly, Khao San Road is known for budget accommodations and a backpacker's vibe.

Prices for hotels vary: budget options start at around 1,000 THB ($28) per night, while mid-range hotels range from 2,000-4,000 THB ($55-$110).

Always consider proximity to public transport like the BTS Skytrain or MRT for easy city navigation.

Is Pattaya better than Bangkok for shopping?

Pattaya offers a range of shopping experiences, including malls like Central Festival and Pattaya Night Bazaar for local goods. Prices can be competitive, with street markets providing bargains on clothing and souvenirs. Bangkok, however, is renowned for its vast shopping scene, featuring luxury malls like Siam Paragon and CentralWorld, and the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market with thousands of stalls. Prices in Bangkok vary widely, from high-end to budget-friendly street markets.

For a focused shopping trip, Bangkok provides more variety and scale. However, Pattaya can be more relaxed and convenient, especially if you prefer combining shopping with beach activities. Both cities have their merits, so the choice depends on whether you seek a more extensive shopping environment or a more leisurely coastal experience.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Pattaya and Bangkok, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
