Bangkok to Phuket Destination Reviews

LR
Great trip by night bus. On time and confortable. They give you blanket, water and snacks. The only negative thing was the AC that is really too cold!

My experience was okay, but unfortunately one of the staff on board was particularly rude and unhelpful, commanding me to go here and there in a quite frankly unpleasant, unprofessional manner. My seat also did not recline, resulting in a 13hr experience on a 90° angle. I hate to be complaining, but there was also a brief 5/10 minutes of driving where one of the staff members had left the hatch/door to the luggage compartment wide open, my bag went in last so there was inevitably stress that my belongings may have fallen out of the vehicle!! Apart from that it was okay, if you’re on a tight budget and need to get from place A to place B, this should definitely be taken into consideration! Thank you

Very comfortable ride to Phuket, with snacks and a short 20 minute break to eat a warm Thai meal (coupon included into your ticket!). Nice seats to sleep on, very quiet surrounding and nice staff.

The AC where I was seated would not turn off, therefore I froze half the night and could not sleep, no TVs as indicated but that wasn’t a big deal for me. The terminal in Bangkok was extremely hard to understand and we were not able to check in. Thankfully they still let us in the bus. The stop for food was ok but confusing as well, they told us we had 20 minutes but started calling us back to the bus after 10 which was very stressfull.

The journey took 3 and a half hours longer than expected so was very long. Also we only stopped once. But we did get a free meal when we stopped and water and a snack while driving. I’d recommend taking some snacks and water with you

We were on the bus for 15 hours, and only got one stop at 11 o’clock which we weren’t told would be our only stop. There wasn’t much food there at all so couldn’t get lunch or anything to keep for dinner. Started at 6:45am and got there nearly 3 hours late at 9:30pm to Phuket, missing what we had planned that evening. The time needs to be changed for this trip as all the reviews say it’s 2+ hours late so clearly isn’t a one off.

What mode of transportation is the best one for my route?

Flights

Flying is the fastest and often the most expensive way to travel from Bangkok to Phuket, but with a bit of luck you can score very good deals for as little as USD 48.40.

Things to remember: Note that some of the airlines may have restrictions on checked luggage weight or require paying extra for check-in, choosing seats or transportation of oversized luggage.

If opting for a flight, calculate the time you will spend getting to and from the airports as well as the waiting time before your flight, getting through immigration in case of an international flight and recovering your checked luggage.

In certain cases all these procedures can add no less than 5 hours to your total travel time.

Things to remember: For a more comfortable ride opt for a higher-class bus wherever possible. These buses usually have soft reclining seats and are equipped with air-conditioning and on-board toilets.

They often include water, snacks or a light lunch into your ticket price and make bathroom stops en-route.

Taxi

Things to remember: If you are planning to make detours during your trip, discuss it with your driver or service provider in advance as it may affect the price.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Phuket, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
