Bangkok to Phuket Destination Reviews

Ver bad. Case of cheating the customer. All pasanger were taken out at a isolated place at 5:30 am in morning and then asked to wait for an hour for the small van drivers to again drop them on local Bus station nearby where again we waited for 1 he and asked to board local bus which stopped at every small village or town and took 7.5 hrs to reach Phuket. As against prommised 11:30 as arival at Phuket, we reached at 3:30 pm. Total harrasment for us, especially during our first visit to Thailand.

It was awful. We got on the bus drove 10 hours. Got told to get off the bus and wait an hour and a half for another bus. Got on a little bus that took us to a bigger bus, but again we had to wait an hour and a half for the big bus. Got on the bigger bus and it took us 7 hours from there to get to Phuket. It was suppose to be a 13 hour trip. We were meant to get to Phuket at 7:30am but we got there at about 4:30pm. We missed our boat from Phuket at 3:30pm due to this. We are not happy. 13 hours turned into an over 17 hour trip.

NEVER BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY! The bus was meant to leave at 4 o’clock was delayed by two hours which we didn’t find out until we got there then we was told it will get to Phuket for 7 am at 4 am. It stops off in the middle of nowhere and you’re told to wait for three hours till the next bus comes so altogether it took us 19 hours and we didn’t get to Phuket till 11:30 and was left in the middle of nowhere for 3 1/2 hours until the next bus come and you can’t get a taxi as it’s not near anything.

The departure was at 8:25 PM and the scheduled arrival in Phuket was 10:45 AM, but we arrived around 8:00 AM+. It was very fast and smooth. The conductor was very kind and always smiling. They gave us a lot of free snacks at night, then again in the morning, and even served hot coffee which was really good. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with bus services here in Thailand. My first experience was in Chiang Mai when I joined the Pocari Sweat Trail 2025, and the service was already excellent. By the way, I’m Filipino, and compared to my bus experiences in the Philippines, this is totally different. Thailand’s bus service is really the best! Booking through 12Go was also very fast and hassle-free. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Sai

How do tourists pay in Phuket?

Tourists in Phuket typically use a combination of cash and credit/debit cards. ATMs are widely available, dispensing Thai Baht. It is common for smaller vendors and local markets to prefer cash, while larger establishments like hotels and restaurants usually accept major credit cards. When using cards, ensure they are enabled for international transactions and be aware of any foreign transaction fees.

For convenience, it is advisable to carry some cash for street food, taxis, or small purchases. Currency exchange booths are plentiful, especially in tourist areas, but comparing rates can be beneficial. Mobile payment apps are gaining popularity but are not universally accepted by all local businesses yet. Always inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any card issues.

Does Phuket have beaches?

Phuket is known for its beaches, offering a variety of options for visitors.

Patong Beach is popular for water sports and nightlife, while Kata Beach is known for its surfing and family-friendly environment. For a quieter experience, Nai Harn Beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere.

Each beach provides rental services for umbrellas and loungers, typically costing around 100-200 THB ($3-6). Many beachside vendors offer snacks and beverages. Public access is generally free, but some private areas may require a fee.

Travelers should be cautious of strong currents during certain seasons, especially at less sheltered beaches.

Why is Phuket important?

Phuket is a key destination due to its beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. Patong Beach is known for nightlife, while Kata and Karon offer more relaxed atmospheres. The Old Phuket Town features Sino-Portuguese architecture and local markets.

For transportation, tuk-tuks and taxis are common, with fares starting around 200 THB ($5.50) for short trips. Renting a scooter is popular, costing about 200-300 THB ($5.50-$8) per day.

Dining ranges from street food to upscale restaurants, with meals from 50 THB ($1.40) at local eateries to 1500 THB ($41) at fine dining venues. Tap water is not advisable for drinking; bottled water is recommended.

Cultural tips include respecting local customs, like dressing modestly when visiting temples. The rainy season from May to October may affect travel plans, so visiting between November and April is preferable for better weather.

Things to remember: Note that some of the airlines may have restrictions on checked luggage weight or require paying extra for check-in, choosing seats or transportation of oversized luggage.

If opting for a flight, calculate the time you will spend getting to and from the airports as well as the waiting time before your flight, getting through immigration in case of an international flight and recovering your checked luggage.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
