Bangkok to Koh Samui Destination Reviews

TM
Very confortable, free coffee during the trip, and the persons working there are sooo nice, especially one of the girl who is speaking in the microphone, so cute 🥰 Just something bad: too much AC!! You have to put the temperature higher, it’s too cold in the bus

I opted for the somewhat more expensive luxury class, assuming it would guarantee a comfortable long bus journey. Unfortunately, the exact opposite was true: there is probably no more uncomfortable bus than the one we were given for the trip from Bangkok to Surat Thani. Surprisingly, the seats in the left row are further apart than those in the right. This allows passengers in the left row to at least stretch their legs a little. I had the misfortune of sitting in the right row... All the seats recline by perhaps 5 degrees; a near-lying position is out of the question. The fold-up footrest is completely useless, at least in the right row, as it automatically collides with the seat in front. For a journey of over 11 hours, this is unacceptable; I would expect considerably more comfort. I would be interested to know what distinguishes the luxury class from the VIP and standard classes. The price is the highest, but the standard is the lowest...🤬 On the positive side, the punctuality and the very friendly tour guide, who speaks excellent English, showed a sense of humor and explained everything very clearly, were noteworthy.

Is Koh Samui good for solo travel?

Koh Samui is suitable for solo travelers, offering a range of activities and easy navigation. Public transportation includes songthaews (shared taxis) and motorbike rentals, with daily rates around 250 THB ($7). Popular beaches like Chaweng and Lamai are lively, providing opportunities to meet other travelers. For a quieter experience, consider Bophut or Mae Nam beaches.

Dining options include local street food, with meals costing about 50-100 THB ($1.50-$3), and more upscale restaurants. Visiting the Big Buddha, Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks, and exploring Ang Thong National Marine Park are recommended activities.

Regarding safety, Koh Samui is generally safe, but it is advisable to keep valuables secure and be cautious when renting and riding motorbikes. Tap water is not recommended for drinking; purchase bottled water instead.

What is the best part of Koh Samui to stay?

Chaweng Beach is a popular area to stay in Koh Samui, known for its vibrant nightlife, extensive dining options, and wide range of accommodations from budget hostels to luxury resorts. This area is ideal for those looking to be in the center of the action with easy access to restaurants, bars, and shopping.

For a quieter experience, Bophut offers a charming atmosphere with its Fisherman's Village, featuring boutique hotels and beachfront dining. Lamai Beach is another quieter option, offering a more relaxed vibe and beautiful beach scenery.

Transportation is convenient, with taxis and songthaews (shared trucks) available to explore the island. Accommodations range from ~1,000 to 15,000 THB per night ($30 to $450), depending on the type and location. Tap water is not safe to drink, so use bottled water for drinking.

Is one day enough in Koh Samui?

One day in Koh Samui can provide a brief but enjoyable experience. Start your day at Chaweng Beach for some early morning relaxation. Visit the Big Buddha temple (Wat Phra Yai) for cultural insights, then head to Fisherman's Village in Bophut for lunch, where you can enjoy local Thai dishes.

In the afternoon, consider a quick visit to the Na Muang Waterfall for natural scenery. For transportation, renting a scooter (~250 THB/day, $7) is convenient for getting around. End your day at one of the beachside restaurants for dinner, where a meal typically costs around 200-400 THB ($5-11).

Tap water is not safe to drink, so opt for bottled water. While one day provides a taste of the island, a longer stay is recommended to explore more attractions and enjoy leisure time.
