Bangkok to Koh Phangan Destination Reviews

LS
The first part of the trip was good! But when we had to transfer to a different bus, chaos ensued. There were not enough spots on the second bus, which is baffling seeing as we all buy our tickets ahead of time. The aisles of the bus were stacked with luggage, making any escape in a possible accident impossible. But as a grown adult I can deal with that. The cherry on top was the driver, who seemed to go out of his way to be rude. A man across from me had what seemed like a chronic and clearly visible disorder, preventing him from walking or sitting like most people. I respect him massively for putting up with the attitude of the driver: The man across from me asked what time the ferry would depart, to which the driver replied with a barrage of inappropriate comments. It started with a loud "shut up" and when the man across from me calmly tried to clarify, this driver yelled "do you want to walk? Go walk!" Multiple times. If there weren't so many bags blocking all of us, we'd probably have had a chance to intervene (I have a picture of the aisle). Perhaps the driver should consider a different carreer, where he doesn't have to deal with people, or any lifeform. Upon arrival the man across from me, in clear discomfort tried to leave the bus. The driver took this opportunity to be rude to him again. Calling this behaviour shameful is a compliment, absolutely ridiculous. So help me god, I'll do anything in my power to never cross paths with this driver again. The rest of the company is solid, but that driver on the last leg of the trip should be ashamed of this disgusting behaviour.

The seats are assigned randomly, first in, first served. I came late, but I got assigned a couch, so I slept most of the road on the bus. The ferry is so good, the transfer is so smooth. We got offered free breakfast, toast omelette with butter, and coffee and banana. It was good.

Perfect trip. Ferry was on time (it went to Chumpon with a stop in Koh Tao - great landscapes). Then we had a bit of time to wait for the bus and eat. I had a VIP ticket and the bus really was VIP (super comfy, could turn seats into beds). Nice staff, clean toilets. We stopped once for 30min on the way from Chumpon to Bangkok, to eat and stretch. We arrived in Bangkok in time or close.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Koh Phangan, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
