During the change between the bus and the minibus in Surat Thani, we were offered a transfer between Koh Lanta Pier and our hotel, so we paid (250B, little tip: it's 100B cheaper if you wait until Krabi) thinking that the last minibus would take us directly to our hotel. But when we arrived at Saladan Pier, the driver had only been instructed to drop us off, which created a big misunderstanding with the other passengers. In the end, the information they had forgotten to give us was that a songthaew would take over at the pier to drop us off one by one at our respective hotels.
Other than that, the bus between Bangkok and Surat Thani is comfortable.

Very professional, no breakdowns and transfers were punctual. The big bus was old, the seats worn, hard to adjust for comfortable rest, the ac vents above my seats were partially broken, had to use paper to block airflow which was too cold for comfort. All in all, minor inconveniences considering the fare paid for a longer journey.

The first part with the VIP bus was good, not lots of people, safe and fast ride, the AC very cold.
BUT! We supposed to get to Koh lanta 9:30am and got there after 1pm. We switched few times minibuses and waited between for more then 1 hour.
My reason for taking a bus over a flight was to get early morning and not so late, and spend over 16 hours on the roads.
I tried to contact them on WhatsApp to get more info about he delays and arrival time, no one answer.

I think mostly unsatisfied people leave reviews, but it was above expectation. Everything was well arranged and comfortable.

The operator advertized wifi, but there was none,
The toilet was filthy before our jouney started.
We arrived at our destination 3 hours later than the stated time although there didnt seem to be any traffic. Seats and temperature were comfy enough and we got a meal included at a rest stop.

They should have mentioned the bus is only for a few hours. You stop at midnight to eat and at 5am you change to two different minivans and then you take a ferry. 200 bath extra to get dropped off at your hotel.

Very average vip paid but before surat thani ejected all 3 buses left Bangkok in a sorting area for different destinations waiting more than 1h30 then rotten van for so-called lanta who left without 3 suitcases left on the sidewalk we had to stop ........ arrived at krabis again in the middle of nothing change of van with obligation to pay 200 baths per person to take us to the hotel obviously not interesting for those who are close to this city ....

Van
Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Koh Lanta, too.
Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
