Places to Eat in Chachoengsao
Street Food & Markets
Chachoengsao is a great place for travellers who want to try local Thai food for cheap, as there are lots of street stalls and markets in the main part of town.
Food stalls can be found throughout town, but the best spots are Chumpol Rd, Prampracha Rd and Soi 3.
The most famous market in town is Ban Mai, an indoor market that first opened its doors one hundred years ago! It only opens on Saturday and Sundays, but it’s a nice way to fill some time, shopping for Thai crafts and sampling local food.
In addition to street food, there are lots of small Thai eateries close by to Wat Sothon, where you can also enjoy some lovely views of the Bang Pakong River. This is one of the nicest parts of town in which to dine, and is a great place to go after an afternoon spent exploring Wat Sothon temple.
On Thursday, the streets come alive here, as locals flock to a popular night market.
Local Food
For a slightly more upmarket experience, both Ruen Romsai and Mead Floating Restaurant (both on Maruphong Rd) serve a selection of good value Thai dishes, and have excellent views of the river too.
Western and Internatioal Food
Interestingly, Chachoengsao is home to several shabu shabu restaurants, Mushrooms Suki & Shabu (Em Onuthit 1, off Rueangwut) and Teddy Shabu Shabu (Thanon Sukprayun). This is a delicious Japanese hotpot dish, in which thin slices of meat and vegetables are served raw, and then cooked in a large pot of seasoned broth on the table.
The other main international restaurant in town is Sadudee 23 (10/11 Srisothorn Rd), which specializes in Italian and steaks. The menu has a lot of choice, the service is excellent, and the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere.
Cafes and Coffee Houses
Chachoengsao is also home to lots of cafes, and it even has a Starbucks (outside the Robinson’s Lifestyle Centre)! If you would prefer somewhere less commercial, The Brown House is a cosy spot close to the river, and it’s also a hotel and gift shop. Or, Monster Cup Café (933 Thep Khunakon Rd) is very quiet and has an outdoor patio.
For baked goods, the best place in town is Baanplachum Café (9, Srisothorn-tadmai Rd), and their coffee is great too!
Nightlife
Although it’s not really a destination for enjoying some nightlife, there are still a couple of places you can go if you fancy a few drinks after dinner. Chaun Bar (same road as Wat Sothon) has a fun atmosphere and live music every night from 8pm onwards, or if you’re up for some nightclubbing with the locals, head to Dome (25 Em On Uthit 2).
