Places to Eat in Siquijor Island
The majority of the food you will encounter in Siquijor is local food. If you like to eat like the locals, this is a great travel destination for you. If not, fear not, there are also spots for you to find western food.
Traditional Filippino Food
U.Story Guest House Restraurant is a restaurant that is located inside of a guesthouse on Paradise Boulevard in the Tag-ibo neighbourhood of San Juan. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven nights a week making Pilipino specialties such as banana crepes using the freshest local ingredients. It is another picturesque location, right on the beach, and there are steps down to the sea from the restaurant where you can take a dip after eating. As the guesthouse is run by locals, this is your best chance of getting a home-cooked meal in Siquijor.
Rastaman Grill on Siquijor Circumferential Road in the Monkey Square neighbourhood of San Juan is a cheap and fun bar where you will find many locals. Their specialty is Filipino food and barbecue, so you will find things like lechon, ribs, and other grilled pork delicacies. Side dishes like fried rice and onion rings accompany the main meat dishes and there are many options for vegetarians as well. The beers are cold, plentiful and cheap and there is often live music on the weekends. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner seven days a week and it is a cheap and fun place to grab a bite with average meal prices running from PHP100 to PHP200. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow.
Dinner with a View
The Baha Ba’r is one of the most popular restaurants in San Juan, and is located on Government Road in the Maite neighbourhood. Serving specialities like lechon, fried rice and calamari, this is a good spot to enjoy a meal if you are looking to have some traditional Filipino food. It also has a very nice location in a beach-front shack which is a perfect location for a romantic dinner out. Prices range from PHP150 to PHP500. The restaurant is open from breakfast every morning until an hour before midnight seven days a week. There are also ample vegetarian and vegan items on the menu.
Salamandas is a restaurant on the Coco Grove Beach Resort on Apo Island. It’s yet another restaurant with beautiful ocean views, and in addition to specializing in fresh seafood from the local waters, they also offer international dishes such as pizza. While the service can sometimes be hit or miss in Siquijor and the rest of the Philippines, the service at Salamandas is the high class level you would expect from an expensive beach resort. Expect to pay a bit more to enjoy the views and the good service, around PHP300 to PHP600.
Western and International Food
One of the few restaurants where you can get western food outside the resorts is at Al Capone's Pizzeria, where the pizzas and calzones are all made with imported meat and cheese. Pizzas range from PHP 100-200 here. It is open from seven days a week from lunchtime until midnight, and is located in the Marjunnix Building on the corner of Logarta and Legaspi Streets in Siquijor City. They also make sandwiches on baguettes which are a great choice for lunch.
Another option for western food outside the resorts is at TOTO’s, where you can also find pizza, which many say is the best pizza in the Philippines. The restaurant is located in Larena on F Tan Street in the North Poblacion neighbourhood. Average prices for a meal are around PHP150-300.
