Puerto Princesa Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
As a gateway to the Province of Palawan, Puerto Princesa sees its own share of transient visitors and vacationers all year long. No wonder that the city now has an array of accommodation options from both ends of the class spectrum.
Budget
Perfect for travellers on a shoestring budget, Happy Time Palawan (Bunkhouse Road, Barangay Santa Monica, Palawan) is your quintessential backpacker dig: cheap, clean, with good WiFi, communal areas, and all basic facilities. The staff are really friendly and helped us a lot with planning our onward itinerary. They also offer bike rentals and tour packages at a reasonable price. It is located a bit far from town but a jeepney ride can get you there for only 15PHP to 20PHP. A dorm bed will cost you only between 250PHP to 300PHP while a private room can be had for only around 450PHP to 1,700PHP. At this rate, this place is a steal.
If you're on a budget AND had to be next to the airport then the Treffpunkt 5300 Hostel (258-A Paalan Road, Manalo Extension Brgy. Milagrosa) is for you. Located within a walking distance from the airport, this hostel is relatively new but knows exactly what the guests require. Helpful staff, flawlessly clean and good facilities. They also provide a towel, locker, and free filtered water for drinking. We really loved the random arts on the walls as well as the pancakes for breakfast. The WiFi is surprisingly fast but has a cap of 200mb/day, more than enough to update your SNS. A bed in a mixed dorm is available for approximately 450PHP while rooms start at 785PHP.
Mid-Range
The aptly named Dolce Vita Hotel (Villa Romasanta Street 4, Wescom Road San Pedro) comes highly recommended in this category. Beautifully set up in a garden with a nice pool and bar area, the entire place looks stunning especially in the evening. It feels homier than most city hotels and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Standard room costs around 2,000PHP and they also have a family room that can accommodate up to 6 people for 5,600PHP plus 12 % VAT and 10 % property service charge.
Located near the airport, the Floral Villarosa Hotel (F. Villarosa Road, Bancao-Bancao, Palawan) is another charming hotel with an almost whimsical atmosphere especially when the sun comes down and the staff light candles by the pool. We had a really pleasant stay there and we enjoyed chilling on a hammock and getting massages and drinks by the poolside. Stay here for around 2,000PHP to 2,800 per night.
Top End
A more luxurious stay in the city is still relatively inexpensive than elsewhere in the country. A one night stay in Canvas Boutique Hotel (Palawan North Road corner San Juan Barangay San Miguel,) for example, would set you back between 2,500PHP and 4,200PHP plus 12 % VAT and 5 % property service charge. Service and facilities are top notch. We're still swooning over its modern but artsy interior, every nook and cranny are totally Instagram-worthy! We loved the bed and linen, the toilet and bath, and their onsite restaurant called The Painted Table that serves high quality breakfast. How we wish we could go back again soon.
Located in Rizal Street Extension with plenty of nice restaurants, The Best Western Plus The Ivywall Hotel is another excellent choice in this class. It's new so everything is spic and span and the facilities are great although we did wish that they had a bigger gym. There's a nice pool on the third floor. Very secure and the staff are polite and accommodating, there's really nothing to complain about. A night's stay here ranges from 3,300PHP to 6,100PHP plus 12 % VAT and 10 % property service charge.
