Sibu Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
There’s a pretty good choice of accommodation in Sibu, with several internationally rated hotels and plenty of guesthouses, homestays and hostels. Whatever your budget you should be able to find something that suits your needs.
Usually it’s possible to book on arrival, especially with the cheaper options, but be aware that at busy times of year such as Chinese New Year and the Borneo Culture Festival in July this may be more difficult. Be wary as well that some places will only have smoking rooms, which if you’re a non-smoker can be somewhat off putting.
Top End
One of the most popular spots in the higher price range is the Kingwood Hotel (from MYR245), which is located at the riverside, affording great views from many rooms. There is a rooftop swimming pool, as well as a small cafe and a Chinese restaurant, while the rooms are comfortable and well appointed.
Jalan Kampung Nyabor is where you’ll find a few other options in this sort of price bracket, with hotels around a 4* standard including Tanahmas The Sibu Hotel and RH Hotel. The former even has its own Karaoke facilities, as well as conferencing suites and onsite swimming pools and restaurants. These sorts of spots are popular with business travellers as well as tourists, and are good places to stay if you’re not on a budget.
Mid-Range
There are several mid-range options in the town as well – try to go for a riverside location for the best views and to be within handy walking distance of Sibu’s main central attractions.
Some recommendations are the Premier Hotel, which has rooms from MYR140 and is considered a 3*. Li Hua is another popular choice and is located handily near the Rajang Esplanade and express boat terminal – it offers free wifi and rooms cost from MYR50. Permai Hotel costs from MYR100 but offers frequent special offers and discounts - it has clean and well set out rooms and is a comfortable and convenient place to stay.
Budget
As well as hotels there are a number of homestays that are popular accommodation choices for low to midrange budgets and offer an opportunity for good value and usually very welcoming places to stay in Sibu.
Hola Homestay costs around MYR100 per night and offers simple rooms with free wifi throughout the property and shared bathrooms. Wow Sibu is a slightly cheaper homestay with rooms from MYR89, and includes free toiletries, a shared kitchen, dining room and living area, as well as free wifi. Kelapa Homestay costs from MYR68 per night and offers simple rooms, some with balconies, and basic facilities including the use of a kitchen. These homestays are simple, but cost effective, and are good if you’re travelling independently and just need a bed for the night.
Other budget choices for accommodation in Sibu are Good Stay – from MYR38 – it’s near to the night market and offers very simply furnished rooms with shared bathrooms. It says private bathrooms but this is usually just a shower in the room with no sink or toilet.
The Ba Hin hotel is also a popular choice with backpackers and budget travellers. Rooms cost from MYR50 and include a private bathroom, television and the hotel has a great location in downtown. It can be a bit noisy at night and there isn’t any hot water, but if you’re looking for a budget place to stay this offers good value for money and is worth some sacrifices for a convenient location at such a good price.
