Lake Toba Festival Kick Off Today!

The amazing Lake Toba, the largest and deepest volcanic lake in the world located on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, comes alive this week with the annual Lake Toba Festival 2018 hitting the island today and going through December, 8.

This year, all the festive activities and performances will take place on Tao Silalahi Beach, by the Royal Cemetery of the Silahisabungan Kings, and at the Silallahi II Village Field, all located in the Silahisibungan District, Dairi Regency. The current edition of the festival is held under the theme 'Tribe, Nature, and Tourism' and is aimed at disclosing to visitors the natural beauty of the lake and the wealth of local cultural customs and traditions, all combined to form an ideal destination for eco-friendly and subtantial tourism.

Since the first time the festival was held back in 2013, its program features traditional art and cultural performances, traditional sports events and folk games, handicrafts and culinary bazaars, a tourism seminar and expo. This time, the visitors will be able to participate in the coffee and culinary fairs, as well as appreciate art collaboration performances, choirs and vocal groups competition, the seruling traditional bamboo flute competition and much more.

To get to Lake Toba, hop onto a direct flight from Jakarta or Medan to the International Airport Silangit. It is also possible to get to Toba overland from Amplas Bus Station in Medan via a 5-hour bus ride.
