The listing mentioned a minivan, and while we were initially picked up in one, we were later asked to switch to the bus for the main route.

We had booked for two families (eight people). At the pier, I met several people who had apparently booked the same route. In the end, they put 12 of us in a completely overbooked van, and since there was hardly any room for our luggage, they promised to transfer us to a larger bus after two kilometers. The larger bus was a huge, almost fully occupied coach. Out of concern for the two babies, we tried to discuss whether we could continue our journey in the van now that it was free, but this only resulted in a call to the service hotline, where I was yelled at loudly. We arrived safely in the end, but we had booked something else. This is Thailand, it's different, and 10 years ago I wouldn't have cared, but with small children I can do without this kind of adventure

Everything was fine the check in and connections but the coach’s toilet was broken and had been for some time as the sign had faded and a padlock had been fitted to outside of the door ,to be fair we did stop once for toilet break apart from that, spot on.

All went well until we arrived on Samui Island, the port was chaotic and onward transport to our hotel, for which we had previously paid, was severely delayed. It appeared that the staff at the port were not aware of our booked trip to Fisherman’s Village and none of the available drivers wished to go there. So we waited and waited until eventually the supervisor instructed one of his colleagues to take us. I would not use the onward travel service in future but take a taxi on arrival.

In summary: 45 minutes late to our hotel, they demanded an extra charge even though we had already paid for the pickup in Samui. The van ride was unpleasant because the driver was speeding, exceeding the speed limit. Upon arrival, we were left to fend for ourselves, waiting 20 minutes before seeing another van. I therefore do not recommend this company.

What mode of transportation is the best one for my route?

Taxi

Some travellers consider taxi to be the most convenient form of overland transport thanks to flexible departure times, a possibility to choose the size of the car you need, and a hassle-free door-to-door service.

Things to remember: If you are planning to make detours during your trip, discuss it with your driver or service provider in advance as it may affect the price.

Ferry

Ferry may be a tiring experience especially if you are prone to seasickness and often is not the cheapest option available but it almost always makes for a very picturesque journey.

Things to remember: Ferry rides may be cancelled due to rough seas.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Krabi and Koh Samui, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
