Popular spots include Shark Bay and Chumphon Pinnacle. Besides diving, visitors enjoy hiking trails offering coastal views, such as the John-Suwan Viewpoint. The island also provides relaxed beach experiences at locations like Sairee Beach.

For transportation, motorbike rentals are common, costing around 200-300 THB per day ($6-$9). Dining options range from local Thai eateries to international restaurants, with meals costing approximately 100-300 THB ($3-$9).

For water safety, it is advisable to drink bottled water, as tap water might not be safe for consumption.

Which area is better in Koh Tao?

Sairee Beach is popular for its lively atmosphere, with numerous dive shops, restaurants, and nightlife. It is ideal for those looking to socialize and enjoy a variety of dining options. Prices for meals range from 100 to 300 THB ($3 to $9).

Chalok Baan Kao is quieter, suitable for relaxation and families. It offers scenic views and a more laid-back vibe. Dining here is more limited, with meal prices typically between 150 and 400 THB ($4.50 to $12).

Mae Haad serves as the island's main ferry port and has a blend of amenities, including shops and a few quieter bars. It is a good middle ground if you want convenience without the party scene.

Tap water is not potable, so bottled water is recommended. Both areas have access to beautiful beaches and snorkeling spots, catering to different preferences depending on your travel style.

Is there a lot of walking in Koh Tao?

Koh Tao is a small island, which makes walking a common way to explore its beaches and attractions. Many areas, particularly around Sairee Beach and Mae Haad, are accessible on foot. However, the island's terrain can be hilly and uneven, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

For longer distances or to access more remote spots, renting a scooter or using taxi services is common. Scooter rentals cost around 150-300 THB per day ($4.50-$9). Taxi fares vary, typically starting at 100 THB ($3) for short trips.

While walking is feasible in many areas, consider transportation options for convenience, especially in hot weather or for visiting less accessible locations.

Koh Samui to Koh Tao Destination Reviews

The boat ride was very comfortable and on time! It didn't shake at all, but be aware that it is all related to the weather. In general, very comfy journey! Don't forget to arrive at the pier 1 hour earlier to check in.

Really comfortable. I usually get travel sickness, but was absolutely fine. Try sitting as high as possible inside - this helps. Also make sure to check the order the ferry goes in to each island, so you don’t end up going back on yourself etc

Really bad weather, the boat stopped half way, the waves were so rough the boat felt as if it would capsize. The captain’s were great though

Check in went quick and smooth. No need to print ticket you can show on your phone. Only need to check and weigh luggage if it it larger than carry on size on airplane. If it is you must weigh and check and bring to ferry yourself. Ferry was decent not really comfortable considering the time from Koh Samui to Koh Tao and you make a stop in Koh Phangan as well. The benches are steel and sit up high, if you are petite feet might not touch the floor. Inside cabin has air conditioning but seats are not very comfortable like other ferries. Small market stand on board with nuts/chips/soda. Ferry had many people laying on the floor because size not large enough for everyone to have a seat unfortunately. The captain did a great job navigating even though people kept coming to front of the boat and standing in his way forcing him to honk the horn at them to move. Overall, not a bad 3 hour journey. We all arrived safely.

The boat was slightly delayed in taking off from Koh Samui due to bad weather which worked for us as our flight was delayed and we would’ve missed it! We waited around a while in Ko Pha Ngan for people to board/disembark. Arrived in Koh Tao 45 minutes after expected arrival time. The boat ride from Koh Samui to Ko Pha Ngan was smooth. However from Pha Ngan to Tao was very rocky. Lots of people being sick and holding on. The staff on the boat were great, making sure all passengers were okay and handing out sick bags. Thankfully we didn’t feel sick. Maybe the travel sickness pills worked or sitting in the middle of the boat helped with motion sickness. We sat in the middle left of the boat and us and our luggage got very wet from the waves splashing up. Overall very organised trip and wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!
