It is challenging due to number of people and different locations of koh Tao and Kok Phangan. However the arrangements to manage groups / people could be must better. Although the team tried there best the number people caused big cues, some of which could be many by have a specific are for all koh Tao people to wait to all of the koh phangan people on first

The operator was very kind to wait for me despite my flight landing late at Samui airport. It would be nice to have a contact number on the PDF page to reach out proactively for this type of issue.

What not to wear in Koh Phangan?

Koh Phangan’s tropical climate and laid-back vibe influence its dress code, but there are cultural norms to respect. Avoid wearing bikinis or swimwear away from beaches or pool areas, as it’s considered inappropriate in public spaces. When visiting temples, dress modestly by covering shoulders and knees—this shows respect for local traditions. For outdoor activities like hiking, avoid flip-flops and opt for sturdy footwear to prevent injuries. Light, breathable fabrics are ideal for hot weather, but bring a light jacket for evenings or ferry rides. Avoid camouflage prints, as they can be associated with military attire, which is frowned upon in Thailand. Practical tip: Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party is casual, but wearing waterproof shoes and avoiding expensive accessories is wise due to the beach setting and crowds.

Can you walk everywhere in Koh Phangan?

While Koh Phangan is relatively small, walking everywhere isn’t practical due to its hilly terrain and scattered attractions. Coastal areas like Haad Rin or Thong Sala have walkable streets with shops, restaurants, and beaches nearby, making them convenient for pedestrians. However, many beaches, waterfalls, and viewpoints are located far apart or accessed via steep, narrow roads. Renting a motorbike is the most common way to explore the island efficiently, but ensure you have a license and experience due to challenging roads. Alternatively, shared taxis (songthaews) connect major spots, though they’re less frequent in remote areas. Tip: Walking can be enjoyable in village areas or during short hikes, but always carry water and sunscreen to stay safe in the tropical heat.

Is tipping expected in Koh Phangan?

Tipping in Koh Phangan is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service. In restaurants, leaving small change (10–20 THB) or rounding up the bill is common practice. For more upscale dining, tipping 5–10% is polite but not required. Hotel staff, such as housekeepers or porters, also appreciate small tips of 20–50 THB for helpful service. Taxi drivers and songthaew operators typically don’t expect tips, though rounding up fares is a kind gesture. For massage therapists, a tip of 50–100 THB is customary if you’re satisfied with the experience. Cultural insight: While Thais value generosity, tipping is less institutionalized than in Western countries, so even small amounts are received warmly and with gratitude.
