I boarded the ferry at 5:30 AM. After arriving at the pier, I was transferred to a large bus for a short ride, and then asked to change to a smaller bus at a transfer station. At the transfer station, the local staff demanded an additional fee for my suitcase, even though it met the weight limit. While the suitcase was slightly taller, it was narrower and fit easily into the luggage compartment. Only thanks to immediate assistance from 12GO customer support, who answered the phone and intervened directly with the station staff, the issue was resolved. The bus ride itself was extremely unpleasant and not a direct journey. The driver made multiple unscheduled stops along the way to pick up and drop off packages and passengers, causing delays and confusion. At the end of the trip, I was not informed when we reached my designated stop, Phuket Bus Terminal 2. When I asked the driver, he said I was expected to notify him myself. This was never communicated in advance, and no announcements or guidance were provided. The issue here lies with the local operators and on-the-ground execution, not with the booking platform itself.

Finding driver in Surat Thani was not easy, whatsapp customer service said driver is waiting there anytime - which is not true. The person was also extremely rude, "open your eyes to find the driver". As if I was not looking everywhere before contacting help. The pickup committee showed up later, a woman yelling "Phuket", I went o her, showed her my ticket and she said no and rejected helping me. Only to find out 20 minutes later that she was actually the right pickup person. I think a defined pickup time would help to find the pickup to the vans. Driver on the other hand was extremely sweet and helpful, which helps my rating to go to 3 instead of 1 star.

Is Phuket safe for LGBT?

Phuket is generally considered safe for LGBT travelers. Thailand is known for its tolerant and welcoming attitude toward the LGBT community, and Phuket, being a popular tourist destination, reflects this. LGBT-friendly venues, such as bars and clubs, are concentrated in areas like Patong Beach, particularly along Bangla Road. Public displays of affection, regardless of orientation, should be modest, as Thai culture values discretion.

While Phuket is LGBT-friendly, it is wise to remain aware of your surroundings, as one should anywhere. Local laws do not discriminate based on sexual orientation, offering additional security. Always respect local customs and traditions to ensure a positive experience.

How do you commute around Phuket?

Public transportation in Phuket is limited, but there are several options for getting around the island. Tuk-tuks and taxis are widely available, with tuk-tuk fares starting around 200 THB ($6) for short distances. Always negotiate the fare beforehand.

Motorbike rentals are popular, costing approximately 200-300 THB ($6-$9) per day. Ensure you have a valid license and wear a helmet for safety. Car rentals are another option, typically costing 800-1,200 THB ($24-$36) per day.

Local buses, known as songthaews, connect major beaches and Phuket Town, costing 30-50 THB ($1-$2) per trip. While cheaper, they may not run on fixed schedules. Ride-sharing apps like Grab offer convenient alternatives, with fares similar to taxis.

For island tours, consider hiring a private driver or joining organized tours for convenience.

Is Phuket fun at night?

Phuket offers a lively nightlife with various options to suit different tastes. Bangla Road in Patong is a popular spot, featuring bars, clubs, and live music venues. For a more relaxed evening, consider a beachside restaurant on Kata or Karon Beach. Cultural shows, such as the Phuket FantaSea, provide entertainment for families. Night markets like the Phuket Weekend Market offer local food and shopping experiences. For those interested in a quieter setting, beach clubs and rooftop bars provide a more laid-back atmosphere.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea.
