Hanoi to Sapa Destination Reviews

Not the worst transport in the world, but very badly organised. Got told to go to an address in Hanoi which was outside a coffee shop to be picked up. We were the only people there, ended up messaging the number and the lady that replied was helpful and said driver was running a little late. 45 minutes after we were due to be picked up, the driver eventually showed. Once we left Hanoi (an hour after we were to have meant to) the drive was actually very nice, in a very nice vehicle with really comfy seats. Got to Sapa about an hour later than usual. They were an okay company to book with if you are just looking to get from one town to the next and not too worried about timescales. I think if you wanted to be somewhere by a particular time though, probably would look elsewhere

Ride was two hours late and personal in the bus was very unfriendly. The vip seats were nice though.

Bus broke down on a hill but the driver managed to get it going again about an hour later. Did still end up in Sapa even though it was a few hours late. Seats were snug but i got to cuddle my friend so winning

I booked the sleeper bus at 6am and ended up starting the trip at 7am in a van instead. No explanation, no information in advance

Very comfortable VIP bus, smooth ride overall I had a very good experience traveling with G8. The VIP bus is extremely comfortable, clean, and well-equipped — one of the best buses I’ve taken in Vietnam. The only small downside was an unexpected stop for breakfast about 30 minutes before arriving at the destination, which caused a slight delay. Personally, I would have preferred to arrive directly since we were already very close. That said, the comfort and quality of the bus definitely make up for it. I would still highly recommend G8 for long-distance travel.

Very good. Was not expecting to first go on a small shuttle to the main bus. Seats recline back and has massage option as well as heat or cold air in seats. Two rest stops were made along the way from Hanoi to Sapa. No shoes allowed in bus and at the stops they provide sandals for temporarily use. Would use again.

The cabins did not feel clean and smelled of cheesy feet. The service station stop food was probably the worst food I’ve ever had in my life and generally the ride was not very comfortable. It’s good there was a toilet on board at least and the driver was safe and good at his job

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Hanoi and Sapa, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
