Fantastic experience. Our driver was really polite and an amazing driver! He was super safe. I usually get car sick and even on the windy roads I didn't because he was so smooth. He stopped for a break after a couple of hours too which is good for alertness. The communication before the trip was also excellent, really appreciated the driver and car info including photo via WhatsApp. Highly recommend this service!

Took the 10:30 bus from Hanoi to Sapa. The bus was about 40minutes late, but the sleeper cabins were comfortable, clean and good WiFi on board. We had a stop for lunch halfway through. Due to traffic/road conditions, we arrived 1hr later than planned. Staff on the bus were very direct and came across rude when shouting instructions. I also saw them throw someone’s bag off the bus when we arrived to Sapa, and it landed in the mud, as they were trying to unload the bags quickly. Overall an ok journey if you’re prepared for their shouty, abrupt manner! Got to our destination safely which is the main thing.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Hanoi and Sapa, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
