Bangkok to Pattaya Destination Reviews

We left 30 minutes late because they want to buy more tickets to fill the bus. I buy a seat for my big suitcase as ask and finally no need they have enough space. So they sell a seat twice. The drive didn't stop at the good terminus and asked everyone to leave the bus

Long, uncomfortable and bump ride. Chaotic from start to finish. Review based on extensive travel and understanding of transport in Thailand.

I booked a VIP bus instead I was put into a car which wasn’t very spacious. The car was full which made it an uncomfortable journey. I felt sorry for the lady squashed in the middle back seat. It is a shame when you pay extra and don’t receive the service you paid for . However, one positive is the driver drove carefully so the journey felt safe.

Well you asked so here goes; we have used these and other buses many times always good value on time and fit for purpose, however this was a bad experience it may have been a one off but something tells me they probably do it regularly. We turned up at Mochit 45 mins before our bus time checked in and tilt to wait at the appropriate point, all good so far , the mini coach bus arrived we boarded it was 80% full , all bags where stored at front next to driver (no overhead storage or outside locker on these mini coaches is normal) off we went 30 mins early -great . First we stopped 10 mins away a diversion to collect a Parcel, then we stopped an hour later twice to drop off parcels they had put on board both diversions from the route, then twice more to drop a cat off in a cage for someone it was just left after many phone calls!!! Two more stops with parcels meeting cars on roadside to handover , it became a joke felt like we where on a post van, even the local people where in dismay!! Looking at the google map along our route we where on all the worst roads due to these deliveries missing the great highways, the driver was getting irate too when questioned by locals he just got angrier, one guy got off for a cheeky cigarette while he was doing a delivery driver got back on and said I’m going without you so guy jumped on quick. We eventually got “near” our destination (Pattaya) he pulled up on a busy rd and made us all leave the bus - that was it 40 minutes late even though we left 30 mins early and an awful journey in a mechanical wreck of a bus . As I say the bigger coaches are great this smaller mini coach maybe can’t make money so they are outsourcing? But for a direct point to point we won’t risk it again because we where not informed!!!!

AVOID AVOID AVOID! Driver left 25 mins past the departure time, decided to stop MULTIPLE TIMES during the ride to either buy food, put gaz, stop to BRING MORE PEOPLE INTO THE BUS even thought we didn’t have the room and he took the money probably for himself. We were LOCKED in the bus while he was doing his stops and he WAS NOT listening to us saying we wanted to go home and were very late. We made it to Bangkok 3h30 AFTER DEPARTURE! Terrible experience.

Whist the bus ride to Pattaya was without any issues the support staff (particularly the women) at the station assisting passengers with boarding were rude, aggressive and done right nasty! As there is very little information in English it was difficult to determine which bus we needed no board. When we asked the staff, showing them our ticket they responded with a NO!! Pushing us away. The toilet in the bus was absolutely disgusting and stinking. Didn’t look like it had been cleaned since the bus first came into service. The bus stations on either location have very little English for foreigners.

Unfortunately, we drove an hour longer than planned and I didn't know exactly where the terminus in Pattaya was. It would be great if you could get the exact info in advance.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Pattaya, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
