Songkhla Thailand – Best Guesthouses and Hotels to Stay
You won’t find a great choice of accommodation options in Songkhla town though there are several guesthouses which are definitely a solid value. Do not expect to come across high-end resorts – you will most probably set up with one of the mid-range hotels instead.
Budget
A number of cheap guesthouses can be founded on Soi Rong Muang, immediately north of the National Museum. They are the best solution for people on a tight budget that want to sleep close to the old city. Many of them offer fan double rooms with shared bathroom starting at THB250, while for THB100 more you can have air-con and a private toilette. As a general rule don’t expect a lot more than a thin and hard mattress, a fan and sometimes an old TV. We would suggest you anyway to take a look at the room before paying since sometimes you’ll be given a recently renovated one for the same price of an old and dark room.
Almost next to each other Songkhla Guesthouse and Yoma Guesthouse are among the cheaper options we’ve seen and their shared toilette with cold water are usually clean and well maintained. On the same street Holland House is slightly more expensive (starting at THB350) but all the rooms have an attached bathroom and are generally of a better value. The Thai lady running it is very friendly and able to give valid information about the town’s attractions.
Walking a few hundred meters east, right behind the city hall you’ll find Bo-Yang Guesthouse (7/1 Chaiya Road), probably the best valuable rooms you can have for less than THB600; decent size, thick and comfy mattresses, big windows that bring in lots of light, wooden floor, a wardrobe and a desk, and private bathroom with hot water (some has a shower, some other a bathtub). They all come with air-con, Wi-Fi and flat screen TV. A bit awkward is the location that might look really convenient to somebody or the opposite to someone else; right in middle between the old town and Samila beach, it is actually not close to anything but neither too far from everything; if you don’t mind to walk a km or so, you’ll find it perfect since you’ll never need any transportation in town other than your legs. The standard rooms come at THB450, the bigger ones at THB550.
Mid-range
Right in the heart of the old town, Baan Nai Nakhon (166 Nang Ngam Rd) would be our first choice in the mid-range budget. A beautiful historic house recently renovated with style and taste, it offers few rooms (reservation is highly recommended), all of which are differently decorated and furnished, always respecting the general atmosphere that a late 19th century house should have. Lots of antiques, memorabilia and old pictures can be found at the entrance, in the common areas and along the stairs. In the beautiful garden adorned with plenty of flowers and plants, you’ll love your exceptional included breakfast. Rooms come at THB1500 and they all have air-con, Wi-Fi and a fridge.
BP Samila Beach Hotel and Resort (8 Rachadamnern Rd) is the only real option you have if you want to sleep close to the beach and it’s also the most ‘’luxury’’ hotel without moving far from the city. Everything is ok, and if we visited it twenty years ago, we would probably be a lot more enthusiastic about it, but unfortunately time goes by, and the property doesn’t seem too keen in investing money for the deep renovation that it would need. Anyway the rooms are big and well-furnished and they don’t miss anything, but they’re simply jus old, and not enough to make them look charming to a nostalgic customer. A big swimming plus is a great plus, along with an impressive buffet for breakfast (included in the rate). Prices start at THB1800 for a standard double room.
