Thai media sources say the DCA will endorse Thai VietJetAir’s certificate of airworthiness in time for it to operate planned charter flights to Vietnam and India beginning on 15 November. The plan is to then launch a basic scheduled flight timetable in time for the peak Christmas holiday period.
This timetable will see the airline fly between the capital and Chiang Mai as well as the southern resort island of Phuket. Thai VietJetAir is jointly owned by Chiang Mai based Kannithi Aviation and VietJetAir, a budget airline with its operational hub in Hanoi.
Kannithi operates as Kan Air and company president Somphong Sooksanguan confirmed Thai VietJetAir would start operating charter flights just as soon as the DCA gave the green light. At present, Thai VietJetAir only has the one A320-200.
This aircraft has been sat on the tarmac at U-Tapao Airport near Pattaya for a few days and has already had the airline’s logo painted on it. Thai airline industry insiders claim the airline is expected to take delivery of a second aircraft in the near future so that it can expand its routes.
