Here is the list of routes covered by Lotus Train which are always in high demand with the travellers:

Lotus Train Ticket Prices & Train Classes

To get most of your train ride to choose the class of your ticket wisely. Consider the length of your trip, the time of the day, and your own preferences. For longer travels by night, first or second-class tickets in a sleeper coach might be the best solution. Both options allow you to sleep your night away as comfortably as it gets on a train and save the precious daytime of your vacation. Note that sometimes first-class tickets cannot be booked for short couple-of-hours trips on a longer itinerary. They are often reserved for travellers who cover the whole route from departure to the terminal station. Yet second-class sleepers of sometimes soft seats are a decent alternative if 4-5 hours bring you to your point B. Check what is included in the price. Linen and towels may or may not be provided for overnight trips as water, snacks, or toiletries. It is always a good idea to bring some layers on board as air-conditioning or heating may fail to meet your standards.

Travel by Train: Pros & Cons

Pros of Train Travel

  • Railway travel is an ideal solution to beat traffic. While delays are sometimes possible for various reasons, in general, neither rush-hour, long weekends nor high season fever will ruin your timing with railways.
  • Online booking of railway tickets saves you a lot of time. For many destinations, tickets can be booked as long as 90 days before your travel date which brings planning to a new level. Yet last-minute deals are often available, too. There is no need to go to the train station to book either – do it wherever you want.
  • In many cases, train tickets are much more affordable than air tickets. On certain routes, the length of travel by high-speed trains equals or even beats air travel if you consider the time you spend in the airport for check-in and going through security and/or customs formalities.
  • Very often, railway stations are located in the center of the city. It saves you a lot of time to reach your accommodation. Older railway stations often have the added bonus of being super atmospheric occupying historical buildings. Travelling to/from such stations can be considered a worthy point of your whole travel plan.
  • Besides saving you daytime for other more enjoyable things, a night on a train is a good way to cut your hotel expenses. If it is a sleeper you opt for, you may expect to sleep quite well, too. Well, better than on a sleeper bus for sure!
  • There are luxury trains serving some routes, and it is definitely an experience to try at least once in your life.

Cons of Train Travel

  • The longer the distance – the longer the train ride, and if you have to cover a considerable mileage, it will be very time-consuming. So sometimes air travel is a better alternative even if costlier.
  • Connections with your onward transport should be planned with extra care. Though the timetables are normally set, delays and cancellations are always possible due to a variety of reasons. Another thing to consider is the location of the station where your train arrives or departs from. There is more than one train station in certain cities and locations, which sometimes causes confusion.
  • One of the most common complaints about trains on certain routes is cleanliness. It mostly concerns the cheapest class coaches and toilets.
  • Stops are not always clearly announced or marked during some train trips. Electronic screens do solve this issue easily but are not present everywhere. So ensure you track your stop with GPS or just ask a conductor if any.

No WiFi as it stated on the ticket. We were told the drinks (coke, tea etc) were free but you had to pay. Not that it was an issue but if your told something then that’s what you expect. Other than that everything else was ok.

The inside of the carriage was comfortable but the train is extremely noisy. The different companies share the same train (eg SE19) so the noise is the same whatever company’s carriage you choose. That said it’s an efficient (but quite expensive) way of travelling a long distance.

I love trains. The service was good. A bed on a train is what it is, but the whole family enjoyed the ride from Hanoi to Hue

Train #SE19 VIP Sleeper 4x, Lotus Train, Jul 14, 2026
The train was as expected, albeit the ride was not very comfortable. However it was a bucket list item and I think it was worth the hassle of sleeping on a noisy and bumpy ride. The beds are firm. The adults didn’t sleep well however the kids were fine. Unfortunately I got off at Hue instead of Danang so I might have missed the best part of the scenery. There wasn’t much to see besides the rice patties. The snacks and water was sufficient and the toilets are looked after well enough. I don’t regret the experience as poor sleep was expected.

Her er en naturlig engelsk oversættelse, som egner sig godt til en anmeldelse: There had been a double booking, so we did not get the berths we had reserved. After some time, we were moved to another carriage operated by a different company. We also had to remind the staff ourselves that breakfast was included in the price we had paid. Although the service attendant was very friendly, smiling, and helpful, he also wanted us to pay one million Vietnamese dong so that no one else would be assigned to our compartment overnight. We had originally booked a four-berth cabin, so in principle that would have been acceptable. However, the cabin had not been prepared for additional passengers, and we certainly did not want someone arriving in the middle of the night while staff made up beds for them. The following morning, we explained that we felt it was only fair compensation for the double booking that we were allowed to keep the compartment to ourselves. The service attendant accepted this when he came back to collect his one million dong.

The overall experience was better than I imagined. There were plenty of goodies. The air conditioning in the cabin was okay. If you were on the top bunks you couldn’t feel it much.

Although a little small, the cabin was comfortable and luckily we could just fit our suitcases under the bunks! If you had 4 people in the cabin it would have been much tighter! The little goody bags provided were great!

We liked our experience but it was more expensive than a flight and a flight is a much better experience. They could work on cleaning more and having better breakfast. It’s something to do once, I would recommend over a sleeper bus for sure!

The journey on the sleeper train was unforgettable. I was only disappointed because two announcements were made like there would be free beer and orange juice on the train, but actually there was no beer and shen I asked about the orange juice in the morning there was no juice left. 😔

Train #SE20 Private 2-sleeper cabin, Lotus Train, Apr 20, 2026
Our 2 bed cabin was switched to a 4 bed cabin due to a car issue which gave us less head room as I am 6' tall. Overall the cabin was nice. The bedding had slight odor. The cabin temperature also fluctuate during the night making it uncomfortable to sleep. For the cost of $450CAD and time of 14 hours, taking a plane would have been better.

Our experience was good, booking the train was easy and the station was very helpful taking our bags to the train. We shared a 4 berth cabin with a Chinese couple and it was fine, we managed to communicate via google translate. I would advise eating before getting on the train as the food was limited. Snacks and the light breakfast was ok.

We had our tickets changed one day before with different places assigned and no chances to change for what we wanted. The train assistant in the cabin was confused and were running around for 5 minutes trying to fit us somewhere. Finally we got places in a different couch near the toilet. Than qe got other train assistant trying to sell us an upgrade to higher class. At night someone was smoking in the near by so we smelled like the smoke was coming right in our cabin. So I don’t know who is writing good reviews about lotus train, but I wouldn’t

On time and facilities were fine, noisy, slept okay, easy to use. Had a very uncomfortable interaction with one of the train staff and felt unsafe, spoke to my cabin mates who were lovely otherwise I would not have been able to sleep. However the Lotus staff was friendly.

Information not clear at time of booking. Please make more clear: VIP sleeper means only one bed, not whole compartment. There will be other guests too. Bed was filthy, full of hair from previous guest.

It was overall a good journey, Clean cabin and toilets and felt like a safe journey (main reasons we chose the train over bus) but bear in mind the cabins are tiny for 4 with bags and it's a bit of a challenge to get to the top beds especially in dark.. Also, it is loud and does shake *a lot* which wasn't a problem during the trip but we both felt sick afterwards.

The Lotus Express ist very comfortable for Vietnam Trains… Beverage, Food and drinks for and some special for low coast. The train ist very contain…you can enjoy the landscape at the hai van pass and small towns. If you need privacy, the use of the 2 man cabin is mandatory. I like and I will do it a second one.

Train #SE19 VIP 2 Berth, Lotus Train, Oct 21, 2025
No clear instructions when arriving at Hanoi Station. Expected a Lotus Staff member to meet us in the waiting hall. No one to help with bags. Grubby linen. Only one pair of slippers. No handwashing liquid and very grubby dedicated area for washing. Steward never came round round with drinks as advertised. Had to purchase beer. Expected more for the price. On arrival at Hue we were helped with bags which was good as a very long drop to the platform from train.

The cabin was clean and the beds comfortable and large enough. We got some snacks and a bottle of water. Toilet was clean and usable, as well as a sink with mirror for washing. The comfort during night was ok, as the train is pretty loud and moving a lot. If you are sensitive to noise and movement I would maybe take a bus instead.

Train #SE20 VIP Sleeper 4x, Lotus Train, Oct 11, 2025
The journey was great, but we did not like at all that one person from the staff tried to get money from us, asking first one million, then 700, the 500k vnd, in order to let us use the whole cabin, telling us once and again that otherwise more people was coming in three hours, which was a lie. First of all, if we had wanted to book the whole cabin we would have done beforehand, and most important, we don't like people trying to cheat us.
