Thakhek Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Accommodation in Thakhek is scattered throughout the town; there are quite a few guesthouses along the Mekong river bank, which is close to the tourist centre of the town, but there are equally as many accommodation options scattered around throughout Thakhek. It's not always necessary to book in advance, but if you don't want to wander around several kilometres looking for a place that's a good fit for you and your budget, it may be best to reserve something before arriving in the town.

Budget

Thakhek Travel Lodge is one of the most popular spots with backpackers, and is known for having helped to “put the Loop on the map,” so to speak. The accommodation itself is fairly basic here, with simple dorm rooms or private rooms, all of which are a bit questionable in cleanliness and style. However, there's a very social vibe here, and the place is a bit of a hub for travellers passing through Thakhek. You're sure to meet other backpackers with stories of their trip on the Loop or their other adventures in Laos.

The Travel Lodge also has a motorbike rental service, another appeal to those who stay here. But it’s possible to get objectively nicer accommodations for similar prices in other guesthouses; you just might not have that same social vibe that you find here. Dorm rooms (fan only) start at LAK60,000, private fan rooms with a shared bathroom start at LAK70,000 while a private room with air conditioning and private bathroom will set you back LAK130,000.

Villa Thakhek (adjacent to the lodge and costing just a bit more) or Vannida Hotel (located across the street) offer slightly nicer rooms but are still close enough to enjoy the social atmosphere of Thakhek Travel Lodge.

Southida Guesthouse is arguably one of the best of Thakhek’s budget accommodation options, as it is centrally located – just a few block away from the night market, close to motorbike rentals, with several eating options nearby. The rooms are fairly basic, starting at LAK100,000, but offering a bit more comfort and style than cheaper or similarly priced rooms in other guesthouses in town. The location is the main appeal of this spot, but the rooms are definitely serviceable and comfortable as well, and a little bit nicer than the average backpacker budget accommodations with TVs in the room, hot water bathrooms, extra furniture, and reasonable prices that still won’t break the bank.

Mid-Range

Le Bouton D’Or Boutique Hotel is one of the best accommodation options in Thakhek, located on the Mekong Riverfront in a beautiful French colonial building. The rooms are attractive, with dark wood furniture, soft beds, and clean linens. There is also a restaurant in the hotel, with a terrace that provides an excellent view over the riverfront, making a lovely spot for enjoying a sunset dinner and Beerlao. Le Bouton is, however, one of the more pricy options in Thakhek, with the lower-end rooms costing well above LAK300,000, and pricier rooms getting closer to LAK600,000. If you are wanting to splash out a bit, however, this is certainly one of your nicer options in Thakhek.

Top End

There is no luxury accommodation in Thakhek, so the previously listed option is arguably your best choice.

There are plenty of other guesthouses and places to stay in Thakhek, so don't let yourself be limited by this list; a search on any online booking website can of course find you the most updated prices and room options for the places listed here as well as any other equally nice places that might not have made their way into this list. Checking reviews and prices on these sites can always help you find the best accommodation wherever you are headed!
