Mumbai India – Best Value Hotels and Guesthouses
Mumbai, with all its wonderful contradictions, offers something for everyone in the sense of accommodation options. From opulent old world luxury hotels to cool and comfortable hostels the city has it all. Since most of the Mumbai's attractions and activities are centred in South Mumbai and Bandra (closer suburbs), it’s highly recommended to stay in these areas. Here's a list of a few places we’ve chosen for different budgets.
Top End
Mumbai houses India’s wealthiest population and therefore it’s not surprising that the number of luxury options that the city has on offer is high.
The shining glory amongst the luxury offerings, The Taj Mahal Hotel is a sight in itself. A stunning art deco building located 100 metres from Gateway of India, the hotel has hosted world leaders and royalty over decades of its existence. A night here is likely to cost you INR 15,000 upwards.
The Oberoi is another Indian luxury property facing the exquisite Ocean at Nariman Point. Its proximity to all sights and shopping areas makes it’s a top pick among luxury travellers. A night here will cost you around INR 15,000.
Another stunner by the Taj group is Taj Santacruz, which is a more modern structure but promises an equally good experience and luxury amenities. If you’re looking for a great place to stay close to the airport, this hotel is your best bet. With one-night tariff of roughly INR 10,000, it will be easier on your wallet too.
In a similar price range some of the international chains like Sofitel, Trident and Marriott are all close to the airport and assure great service and a sumptuous stay.
Mid-Range
If you are in in the mid-range budget, there are options aplenty in the city of dreams.
Close to the airport in Vile Parle there is Hotel Columbus that provides a free shuttle service from the airport (requires booking in advance), neat AC rooms, WiFi and breakfast, all under INR 3000 for a night.
Another option for the mid-range traveller in an excellent location is Hotel Chateau Windsor. While you can find its AC rooms on a smallish side, there is good WiFi along with breakfast, and its proximity to all the major sights and attractions compensates. One night here is likely to cost you INR 5000-6000.
With a slightly higher budget you can also choose Gordon House that is stone’s throw from Gateway of India and has airy and spacious AC rooms along with WiFi and great in-house restaurants, offering rooms under INR 6500- 8000.
Budget
Finally, backpackers, solo travellers and students also have a reasonable number of options to meet and mingle with the community at affordable prices. Bandra and Andheri in Suburban Mumbai are where you will find a young and backpacking crowd. Close to the airport is Bombay’s Backpackers and as the name suggests, it promises a cool place for the backpacking travellers to crash the night with WiFi and a shared kitchen. A bed in a mixed dorm for one night will cost you around INR 800-1000.
In the same neighbourhood you can find Bollywood Bed & Breakfast that has a colourful and filmy theme and comfortable beds that come with their own charging ports and reading lights. All of this is available under INR 1000 for a night.
Another great option for those looking for hostels, is Basti – A Backpacker’s hostel. Located in Santacruz West, the hostel is themed after unique villages of India in its aestheticity. However, it was only the design element that was rustic and we found all modern amenities in the hostel. The dorm rooms come with ACs, WiFi, kitchen, laundry services and cost under INR 1000 for a bid in a mixed dorm.
