Chengdu China – 14 Best Budget, Mid-Range and Top End Hotels to Stay

Chengdu’s accommodation options are very broad and reasonably priced with lots of options for budget travellers. For those willing to spend a little more, then they may be pleasantly surprised because outside of the high season you should be able to negotiate a good discount.

Budget Accommodation in Chengdu

Chengdu has close to twenty international hostels to choose from with several located to the north of Tianfu Square so very close to the city centre. Another popular area for hostels is close to Wuhou Temple, with easy access to the metro and travel across the city.

The Mix Hostel is on Xinghui West Road, just a few metres off the main north-south route of Renmin Road. It is midway between Tianfu Square and Chengdu Railway Station. It has cheap dorm beds from CNY50 per night and private rooms from CNY200. There is a bar, a great menu of Chinese and western food, free Wi-Fi and a great atmosphere. If you ask ahead of your arrival they will arrange to pick you up from the bus or train station. Whenever we stayed overnight in Chengdu this was my first choice when there were rooms available.

Another hostel we like in Chengdu and have stayed at is Sim’s Cozy Garden Hostel on the North Section 4 of the First Ring Road. It is a little way off many of the major tourist haunts but there are some good cheap restaurants close by. There is a large bar area that is popular with foreign travelers, pool tables are free and the Wi-Fi connection is fast. Friendly staff that speak good English and they organize lots of tours in Chengdu and to the surrounding attractions. They can pick you up from the airport if requested in advance. Dorm rooms begin at CNY40 and private rooms from CNY80-240.

The New Times Maruika Hotel is at New Times Square on Wenwu Road in Qingyang District. It is within 2km of Chengdu Railway Station and the city centre shopping districts. It is a three star hotel, with cable TV, free Wi-Fi and unusual for three star hotels in China a safe and a bath, all for less than CNY200 per night.

The Jinjiang Inn is part of a famous chain of hotels with thousands of hotels across the country. There are three of these hotels in Chengdu and the hotel in the south of the city on Renmin South Road is close to the US Consulate, good value for money with small but clean rooms. There is a free internet service and a free Chinese style breakfast. A room at this hotel costs from CNY129-179 per night.

Mid-Range Hotels in Chengdu

Most of the hotels in Chengdu that come in the mid-range bracket are not connected to national or international chains and will charge between CNY300-700 per night. You can usually find the quoted price for these hotels is much cheaper if you book online and come outside the high season.

The Chengdu Garden City Hotel is on Daye Road in the heart of the city in Jinjiang district. It is a four star hotel at the price of a three star. The rooms all have a private bathroom, TV and A/C. The hotel has its own night club, fitness centre, sauna and swimming pool. All this is available for just CNY290 per night.

The Haoge Business Hotel is in Jinniu District and in a superb location close to the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu. All rooms have free internet, satellite TV, a mini bar and costs from CNY640 per night.

The Nanfu Bund Hotel on Shunjiang Road is an underpriced 5 star hotel in Jinjiang district. The rooms have a private bathroom including a bath, cable TV and free internet. A night at this hotel costs from CNY322.

The Somerset Riverview Chengdu on Renmin South Road is just to the south of the city centre. It is an apartment hotel with 200 apartments available which range in size from a studio up to a penthouse. Each apartment comes with its own kitchen, home entertainment system and is furnished to a high standard. The rates begin at CNY630 per day.

The Tibet Hotel Chengdu is on Renmin North Road and is a popular starting point for tours going into Tibet (Chengdu and Beijing are the city’s where it is easiest to get a permit for visiting Tibet). The hotel is classed as five stars and sponsored by the government in Tibet. The hotel provides a full range of services and information needed for travelling to Tibet. Rooms here cost CNY300 per night.

The Citadines South Chengdu is a serviced apartment hotel in the Hi-Tech Industrial Zone. It is an ideal location if you are here on business in this area and there are restaurants and local entertainment venues closeby. Facilities at the complex include a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, a golf simulation room, a Jacuzzi, dry cleaning and launderette facilities. The price to stay here begins at CNY400 per night.

Luxury Accommodation in Chengdu

There is a good selection of luxury hotels in Chengdu; they mostly belong to international hotel chains that specialize in the luxury end of the market. Although they are the highest rated hotels in the city you do not necessarily have to pay the same prices as you might expect in other cities.

The Shangri-la Hotel Chengdu is very highly rated among previous guests for its great level of service and facilities available in its hotel on Binjiang East Road in the Jinjiang district in the centre of the city. Standard sized rooms are priced at between CNY1051-1754, but on travel websites such as tripadvisor rooms can be reserved for as little as CNY874. Among the 593 rooms at this hotel there are suites, family rooms and a choice of smoking or non smoking rooms. There is a choice of restaurants with both Chinese and western food available, a gym, swimming pool and sauna. Plenty to keep you occupied when you are not exploring the city.

The Ritz-Carlton Chengdu is available at the price of CNY1285 per night for a standard size room. They have 55 suites and 113 Ritz-Carlton Club Level rooms available at higher rates up to CNY2874. The hotel has a total of 353 rooms from the 28th to the 41st floors including smoking and non-smoking rooms that overlook Tianfu Square and the city centre of Chengdu. The comfortable guest rooms include walk-in closets, bathrooms including a bathtub and a fully enclosed separate shower. The personalized service of the hotel’s club level rooms available includes a personal butler.

The Temple House Hotel is located on Bitieshi Street in the centre of the city and room prices in this 5 star hotel begin at CNY1640 for a standard room up to CNY2830 for a suite. There are 100 guest rooms with an additional 42 serviced apartments known as residences and these are designed as long-stay rooms with their own kitchen and laundry facilities.

The St. Regis in Chengdu is within walking distance of both Tianfu Square and Chunxi Road and its shopping malls. The hotel has 279 guest rooms ranging from standard rooms for CNY1197 per night up to suites that will cost CNY1729 each night.
