first-class compartment is overpriced. For more than 130$ you have very poor breakfast and hot soft drinks and beer (that should be cold actually), no toiletries, no towel, even no trainman in our coach.
AC works well.
Toilet is clear.
Wifi is promised but doesn't work.
Not a luxury experience, the AC was broken so VERY hot night, unable to sleep, the walls are dirty, the window was leaking so one of the beds was soaked in the first hour of the trip!
The beds were really hard and we had lots of cockroaches in our cabin. Also we couldn't regulate the aircon and I never saw a disgusting train toilet like the one on our train.
Too expensive for the service, the manager of the wagon was pushing for us to spend more to get a cabin private (we were in a 4 seats/dormitory) compartment i believe he was looking for cah for himself, bossing around on every move we made. compartment was too cold with non possible control of temperature, just less power or more power… restaurant tables were dirty…really bot the experience we were looking for
10 10 10 scores! Everything is great from beginning to the end. We upgraded the cabin to Tokin and really enjoyed the train ride. The train was clean and provided you enough amenities, drinks, snacks and fruits. The beds were comfortable. Air con also worked well. I was worried about the hygiene of the toilets during the trip but they are clean and well maintained. I am a light sleeping person but I can sleep well through the night. I like this train more than others based on my real experience 1. Clean toilets, 2. No peasants and smoking person around and the last reason I feel safe more than other trains. Highly recommended. I will definitely use Chapa express again if I need the sleeping train next time in Vietnam.
The train was as expected, albeit the ride was not very comfortable. However it was a bucket list item and I think it was worth the hassle of sleeping on a noisy and bumpy ride. The beds are firm. The adults didn’t sleep well however the kids were fine. Unfortunately I got off at Hue instead of Danang so I might have missed the best part of the scenery. There wasn’t much to see besides the rice patties. The snacks and water was sufficient and the toilets are looked after well enough. I don’t regret the experience as poor sleep was expected.
