Cairo to Aswan Destination Reviews

D
Doroty
I was sent wrong coordinates, so I went to a wrong bus stop. Fortunately, with some help I managed to call the support line. They got me ticket for another bus and sent the right bust stop. But the bus was dirty, air conditioning almost didn’t work and the ride took several hours longer than the original bus. So instead of 8:30 in the morning I arrived around 14 in the afternoon.

The actual price of the ticked was 550 EGP, I was charged 908 EGP, that’s a huge margin for commission. The bus was super dirty and most of the seats were half broken. The bus was 1.5 hours late at the start (at 10 pm) and reached 2.5 later at the destination (at 12:30 pm). There was no toilet on the bus as advertised.

Bad, the reservation on the website didn't allow us to select the seat and when we arrived at the station they assigned us the last seats on the bus that couldn't recline. Additionally, they said the trip would last 10 hours, but it was actually 16!

Things to remember: Note that some of the airlines may have restrictions on checked luggage weight or require paying extra for check-in, choosing seats or transportation of oversized luggage.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Cairo and Aswan, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
