We received the tickets immediately after placing the order (the booking was made 4 days before departure). There were no issues during the journey, and the train was very spacious. However, we were not given any choice of seats, which meant that the two of us were not seated together, but 5 rows apart. There were empty seats available, though.

I believe you should review the process for items such as pocket travel knife. Instead of throwing our traveling expensive instruments you could put it in a sealed envelope that we get back once we get out … thinking that my very expensive Swiss knife and my daughter Swiss knife have been taken by your staff is way too rigid. A parallel option should be offered to get it back after the journey.

This train service in Laos is amazing. Not only is it comparably fast and on time, but also very comfortable. However, the train stations are relatively far away from the city and you need to arrive quite early also because of the harsh security checks, which sometimes create lines if waiting passengers.

  • There is normally a dining carriage on long-distance trains, but on some routes, dining carriages have become extinct due to covid-19 restrictions. Check in advance if food is available on board or simply pack some snacks to be on the safe side. On many trains, you will also see hawkers patrolling the aisles during the journey and selling soft beverages and snacks. Alcohol drinks are prohibited on trains.
  • Smoking is prohibited, too, if, of course, you are not travelling by a common class somewhere in China or Indonesia!
  • Arrive at the train station at least half an hour before departure to allow enough time to find your platform and go through check-in formalities.
