Mae Sot Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
Mae Sot has a wide choice of accommodation especially in the budget and the mid-range market. If you get to town and still don’t know where to sleep just head to the city centre where the main night market is located; around that area you’ll be for sure able to find a solution that suits your needs.
Budget
For a backpacker style accommodation try Sleep Nest Hotel (531 Intarakiri Rd). Located right in the heart of town within walking distance from everything, it’s not the cheapest option available, but instead of a spartan simple bunk bed in a dormitory you will get a stylish capsule room with a comfy bed, air-con and plenty of space for your belongings for THB300. The shared bathrooms are clean and showers have hot water. If you’re used to overcrowded, smelly and uncomfortable dormitories, this will be a nice little change; you’ll still have all the benefits of a regular hostel with all the common areas to meet new people, but you won’t have to give up the extra privacy when you decide to go to sleep. Ask for a capsule at the bottom level since it might be quite tricky to get into the ones in the upper level, especially after a couple of beers. They also have double rooms with private bathroom and air-con for THB400.
For a more traditional solution, DK guesthouse (298/2 Intarakiree Rd) is a long-running establishment in central Mae Sot, with a lot of returning customers who have chosen it as a second home when they’re in town (many volunteers and NGO’s workers). The rooms are big, clean and nice, even if at first sight it may be obvious that a good renovation wouldn’t be a bad idea. All the rooms come with a private bathroom and hot shower. Staff are friendly and try to be helpful even if they speak very limited English. Rates are THB250 for a double room with a fan and THB350 for an air-con one.
Mid-range
For a bit more of comfort try T. House (13/22, Donchai Rd.). Located few hundred meters away from the downtown in a quiet area, but still within walking distance from everything, they offer several rooms in two different buildings adjacent to each other. Choose a room in the main building since they’re a lot nicer and the price difference is just THB50. All the rooms are nicely designed and come with an air-con, flat-screen TV, private bathroom and refrigerator. Free use of bicycles for every guest is a welcome perk and if you need to rent a car they’ll assist. Breakfast is always included into the rate (THB550 for a double room in the main building). If you’re travelling with your family or a group of friends they have spacious family rooms accommodating three or four people for THB800/THB900.
Top End
Those looking for some luxury have no other choice than moving out of town to Centara Mae Sot Hill Resort (100 Asia Road). Located 10 minutes away from town, this resort will give you everything that you would expect from a four-stars hotel. The location is nice with a big park surrounding a beautiful pond, the rooms are big and well decorated and there are two tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness centre so you won’t have any problems figuring out what to do if you have a couple of hours to while away. They offer free transfer to/from the airport and a free scheduled shuttle service to and from Mae Sot or the border to visit the Rim Moei Market. Rooms start at THB1100 which is quite a deal considering the standard of the resort.
