Koh Kood Beaches

Koh Kood has so many beaches, that you’ll have no problem finding your version of paradise. We did visit all the main beaches, and it’s too difficult to pick a favourite!

The island is a bit too big for you to be able to walk from beach to beach, but you can rent a scooter or a bicycle and easily travel around. The roads can be sandy though, so it’s very important to drive carefully (and slowly!) and always wear a helmet.

The following should help you decide which beaches you’ll definitely not want to miss out on. Although there are probably lovely beaches everywhere on the island, the following are all on the western coast, due to the lack of road development elsewhere. The west coast is also where the majority of accommodations, restaurants and other entertainment can be found.

Soneva Kiri Beach

Starting from the north, the first notable beach is Soneva Kiri, but this will probably only be relevant for those staying at the swanky resort here. It is possible to get to this beach if you are feeling adventurous and want to kayak around the island.

Khlong Mat Beach

Next along is Klong Mat beach, which is very small but apparently the northern end of the beach is an excellent spot for some snorkelling. It's likely you'll come to this beach if you are staying close by at either Koh Kood Beach Resort or Suanya resort.

Ao Noi Beach

Ao Noi beach is a beautiful white stretch of powdery sand, with perfectly clear waters for snorkelling. You wouldn't be completely crazy to think you'd suddenly teleported to the Maldives!

This is definitely a must-visit and in our opinion, the closest you'll get to paradise in Thailand.

Khlong Chao

Further down the coast, another beautiful and popular (but never too busy) beach awaits you. Khlong Chao is renowned as the most picturesque beach on Koh Kood, partly due to its peninsular location providing amazing scenic views. It's often referred to as Millionaires Row, as it's home to four luxury resorts, so if you're on a budget then you'll most likely have to visit on a day trip. It's a particularly nice spot for enjoying a beachside beverage at one of the resort beach bars.

Ngam Kho Bay

Further south, but still centrally located, is Ngam Kho Bay. The northern section does not disappear at high tide, making it a great place to relax and watch the sunset.

The southern part of the bay is best avoided, apart from the nice stretch of white sand close by to a coconut plantation.

Sai Daeng

It's closest neighbour is another small bay called Sai Daeng. It's only home to one resort, so it's always quiet, and the shallow, calm waters make it perfect for families with children. There's also a nice cocktail bar at the resort here (Analay Resort), where you can enjoy great sunset views. The high tide has also resulted in a beautiful lagoon behind the beach.

Bang Bao Bay

Another popular beach is Bang Bao Bay in the southwest of the island. There are a few good resorts here, each with their own pier, making it a great place to relax with a drink and take in the sunset views of an evening. The snorkelling here is also good, thanks to crystal clear waters, and it's a safe spot for children to swim. The surrounding countryside is very scenic here, and includes an estuary surrounded by a beautiful mangrove forest.

Southern beaches

The last few beaches in the south worth visiting are Ao Ta Khitai, Khlong Hin, Ao Jak and Ao Phrao.

Ao Ta Khian is not easy to reach, but the quality of the sand and water here make it worth the trek! It's location means it has remained relatively unspoilt, but the sea can get a bit rough here, so it may not be the best spot for children to swim.

Khlong Hin isn't quite so picturesque, but kids will have great fun making sandcastles and swimming in the shallow waters.

Ao Jak is also a shallow beach, with the added quality of being surrounded by a coconut tree plantation - get your camera ready for some tropical snaps!

Finally, Ao Phrao is the most southerly beach, and whilst its quite nice, it doesn't quite have as much to offer as some of the other beaches, and the accommodation here is fairly average.

Whilst we did like all of the beaches on Koh Kood, the standouts for us were Ao Ta Khian, Ao Noi and Khlong Chao - the first two because of the amazing crystal clear waters, and Khlong Chao because the beach is very pretty and there is some nightlife here. We really enjoy relaxing in solitude during the day, and then do some socialising and beach cocktails in the evening. Have fun searching for the perfect beach for you!
