Thai Airways fly-bike promo

Thailand’s national flag-carrying airline has initiated a promotion giving a fly and bike combination. Special fares for cyclists apply on five principal Thai Airways routes from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport from now through to 30 September 2015.

The promotional tickets are available on selected flights to Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Hat Yai, Phuket and Krabi. Although passengers can buy tickets now, the actual window for flying does not commence until 1 April. All tickets need to be utilised before 30 September.

The promotion is the result of a joint collaboration between Thai Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The campaign kicked off with an 18.5km cycle ride through the streets of central Bangkok last December.

THAI President Charamporn Jotikasthira waved the retinue of 999 cyclists off from the airline’s headquarters on Vibhavadi Road. The cyclists paused at Siriraj Hospital to wish His Majesty King Bhumipol a happy birthday before proceeding to the famous Temple of Dawn to make merit.

The deals for cyclists are all part and parcel of the TAT’s Discover Thainess promotion. The campaign is aimed at showcasing Thailand’s traditions and heritage to domestic and foreign tourists.
