Thailand Declares Six Territories Outside Kingdom  Disease Infected Zones

The People’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions), Republic of Korea, Republic of Italy, and the Islamic Republic of Iran were defined as “Disease Infected Zones of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak" by Thailand yesterday. What does it men for travellers arriving to the Kingdom from these territories?

On March, 5, the Department of Desease Control published the official travel advisory for coronavirus diseas 2019 recommending "Thai people who arrive from affected areas and develop symptoms including coughing, sneezing, panting or runny nose within 14 days of return to seek medical care at the hospital immediately and inform the health care provider regarding the history of recent travel to China."

Today, on March, 6, passengers arriving from the affected areas, got through usual health check-ups at the airports of Thailand which basically included just measuring of body temperature. No instructions on compulsory self-quarantine were given to passengers on arrival, as travellers' reports suggest.

Yet to avoid any inconvenience, the Tourism Authority of Thailand recommended travellers from these territories, including transit travellers who feel these measures cound be disturbing for them, to postpone travel to Thailand until the situation improves.

The announcement of Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health stated that Thailand remained at risk from transmission through travellers arriving from other countries.

Today the first news concerning cancellations of Songkran celebrations came from Pattaya: the authorities confirmed that there will be no official water pouring festival this year.
