The pier is at the south end of the central area of Pattaya. The police patrols cover the area from the pier and up through the Walking Street entertainment precinct to the stretch of Beach Road in South Pattaya. The officers have the responsibility of ensuring the safety of domestic and foreign tourists and are on patrol 24/7.
The patrols also have to deal with any untoward incidents that occur in the locality. For ease of recognition, beach patrol officers wear a distinctive uniform with orange caps and shirts. They have a collection of bicycles and ATVs at their disposal to ensure they are able to reach the scenes of any incidents rapidly.
Prior to the instigation of the new police patrols, Pattaya authorities stated they would make visitors feel more comfortable. They added that a visible police presence would also go some way towards the upkeep of law and order in a district that can occasionally be raucous.
