The project is the next step in promoting green tourism activities in Thailand following TAT's '7 Green' program which pioneered the idea of going green while travelling in the country.
'Green a-la-carte' allows tourists to virtually tailor-make their green travels choosing activities to their taste. The project targets both foreign independent travellers (FITs) and domestic Thai tourists.
14 provinces across Thailand participate in the program. They are Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Lampang in the North; Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, and Ubon Ratchathani in the Northeast; Bangkok, Ayutthaya, and Samut Songkhram in the Centre; Chon Buri and Trat on the Eastern Seaboard; Surat Thani, Phang-nga, and Phuket in the South.
Together they offer 25 green a la carte menus that include over 150 tourist attractions and services provided by 37 strategic partners in these provinces.
All the 25 green menus are organized in 5 groups:
Green Appetizer – for relax and chill-out, e.g. beautiful countryside or best sunrise or sunset spots.
Green Main Course – for soft-to-extreme adventure activities, e.g. hiking or bird watching.
Green Combo Set – for community-based tourism including environmentally-friendly hotels or homestays.
Green Side Dish – for 'green' foodies, e.g. farm to table exprience.
Green Topping – for volunteering, e.g. elephants care, teaching kids, seeding new coral growth, and overall wildlife conservation.
