The overwhelming majority of Asian solo travellers are aged between 18 and 38 with approximately half of this number of travellers being under 26 y. o. while astonishing 40% of Western solo travellers are 50 years old or over.
Western solo travellers – probably because they are older and simply can afford it – take longer vacations, normally between four and seven days, while Asians travelling solo make a quick 1 to 3 day escape.
The most popular destinations for Asian solo travellers are Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Tokyo in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Manila in the Philippines, Bali and Jakarta in Indonesia.
While Bangkok, Tokyo and Singapore are high on Western solo travellers' lists, other popular destinations are all outside Asia and include London in the UK, Sydney & Melbourne in Australia, New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the USA and Paris in France.
