Lamphun Invites Tourists to Travel by Train

The northern province of Lamphun, Thailand, have recently launched a campaign promoting train travel in Lamphun and the neighbouring provinces of Phrae and Lampang.

The campaign is aimed at stimulating the local ecomony growth in the northen provinces and encouraging tourists to visit more off-the-beaten-track destinations in the north of Thailand.

The northern Thai provinces lure visitors with well preserved Lanna culture featuring excellent examples of Lanna architecture, cuisine and lifestyle. Though Lamphun, Lampang and Phrae are somewhat overshadowed by their more illustrious neighbour, Chiang Mai, each of these three provinces can offer a range of unique activities and cultural attractions even to the most discerning travellers.

A charming descendant of the ancient Hariphunchai Kingdom, Lamphun has preserved its Mon culture and boasts some of the oldest temples in the country.

Lampang with its signature horse-drawn carriages, is also worth visiting for its picturesque riverside neighbourhood and colourful market.

Old teak houses of Phrae are reminiscent of the days the city's heyday when profitable teak trade flourished here.
All the three are easily reached from Bangkok by flight (about 1 hour 20 minutes), train journey (between 10 and 14 hours) or a bus ride (from 9 hours up).
