AirAsia believes that direct flights between the two destinations open new and great opportunities for tourism. With Chiang Mai being one of the most visited citites in Thailand and rapidly growing tourist arrivals in Yangon the airline is sure the seats on their big A320 planes will sell well.
Promo fares on the official website of the airline start from THB1,000 one way. Flight FD802 will leave Chiang Mai at 1.15pm and arrive to Yangon at 1.45pm with flight duration of one hour. The return flight FD803 will leave Yangon at 2.45pm and land at Chiang Mai International airport at 4.30pm with flight duration of 1 hour 15 minutes.
Thai AirAsia will thus become the third airline serving this route. Currently two more arlines fly direct between Chiang Mai and Yangon: the Thai based Bangkok Airways which also flies to Yangon from Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, and a privately-owned Myanmar Airways International, headquartered in Yangon, serving both Chiang Mai–Yangon and Bangkok–Yangon routes. Besides, Thai Airways and Thai Smile, both from Thailand, operate regular flights between Suvarnabhumi and Yangon, while Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air fly to Yangon from Don Mueang.
