New Train Station in Bangkok to Become Asia's Largest

The good ol' Bangkok's Hua Lamphong railway station will soon give way to a newer and much larger rail hub which is set to open in the third quarter of 2020.

The Bang Sue central station project is already 50% complete. It is located on Thoet Damri Road at the Bang Sue intersection in the north of the capital and not far from Morchit bus terminal. It will become the main rail hub of the Thai capital replacing thus Hua Lamphong railway station located in the center of Bangkok

The new station will cover 240,000 square meters and will serve standard diesel and electric trains together with high-speed trains which are a part of the Thai-Chinese rail link between Bangkok and Nong Khai, Thai-Japanese high-speed project between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and the Eastern Economic Zone corridor linking the city with the three main airports of the area: Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-Tapao.

The current main railway station of Bangkok, Hua Lamphong station was opened in 1916. It has 14 platforms and serves over 130 trains and 60,000 passengers daily. After Bang Sue station is put in operation, Hua Lamphong will be converted into a museum.
