As is the case with most cosmic happenings in Thailand, the National Institute experts and star-gazing fans say the best views are well away from city lights and in elevated positions. The institute’s Dr Saran Poshyanjinda says the happening will be visible with the eyes but proper telescopes will enhance the experience.
In Chiang Mai, Doi Inthanon, Doi Ang Khang and Pai come highly recommended. Elsewhere, Phuket, Songhkla and observatories at Chachoengsao and Nakhon Ratchasima will be holding special eclipse watching sessions from 18:00 onwards. Songhkla’s Mermaid Beach is one of the venues while Phuket’s Rajabhat University experts have extended an invitation to all to visit Saphan Hin park.
The 12GO ASIA team says expected rain showers might hamper visibility but these are not expected to last for any length of time. When the earth casts a shadow on the moon, the brilliant red of the eclipse is not expected to lessen unless the rain is heavy.
