Rain showers and cold weather forecast for Thailand

The National Meteorological Department of Thailand says the forecast for much of Thailand this week is rain showers and cold spells. A weather update issued by the department yesterday stated scattered rain showers would follow on from last week’s unseasonal rainstorms.

The showers are expected to sweep across much of the nation from a line beginning at Kamphaeng Phet and Khon Kaen provinces and then downwards. The forecast for the far northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai is morning fog in rural locations and a significant drop in temperature.

The Meteorological Department says the temperature could drop to 2°C in mountainous locales. Expected wind speeds of 10kmh and more will keep the temperature low for the next few days. 12GO ASIA’s travel team notes that although it is the dry season at present, and will be for the next few months, Thailand expects the occasional storm.

Stronger than normal winds are the norm too at this time of the year and good for flying kites. Locations such as Bangkok’s Sanam Luang Park are popular with kite enthusiasts.
