The approximately 50 vendors were told they had to concentrate on selling soft drinks and juices and promoting the tastes of Thailand’s culinary repertoire. They were also informed that all must wear hygiene aprons. The new rules state that only the franchisees can work at their allotted location and they can’t sublease.
Both the Thai government and Pattaya City Council are keen to see the popular resort area clean up its racy image. An alcohol ban and standardisation of vendors and their services is seen as a means of making the resorts more family friendly.
The cleanup comes ahead of a number of high profile events scheduled to take place in November. 12GO ASIA says a look at the calendar shows the main events are the International Fleet Review, Swan Boat racing at Bang Phai Reservoir and the ShipTech IV Exhibition.
