Petchaburi to stage celebrated annual mud fest at the weekend

Friday sees the start of one of Thailand’s quirkier annual happenings, the Phetchaburi Sea Mud Festival. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has confirmed the three-day fest is set to go ahead as planned and there will be plenty of activities associated with mud to keep all comers happy.

The 2017 mud fest is the eighth in the series and will give attendees the opportunity to enjoy therapeutic mud spas. Contests including tug-of-war in the mud and mud wrestling bouts will add an extra dimension to the entertainment.

Local fishing folks will also be on hand to give demonstrations of the Phetchaburi way of catching shellfish. This involves sliding over the mud on boards and delving down into the goo to pluck them out. The Gulf of Thailand town is famed for its delectable shellfish based dishes and vendors at the fair will be selling the cooked product.

Phetchaburi Sea Mud Festival will take place between the 19 and 21 May. The venue for the all-day entertainment is Bang Tabun District. This district is about 10kms from central Phetchaburi and its noted Ban Pun Palace. Trains and buses travelling south from Bangkok to Cha Am, Hua Hin and Chumpon stop at Phetchaburi.
