Thailand plans to ban private transport on the mountain roads

To facilitate the traffic to the main sights of Chiang Mai at the Suthep Mountain such as Doi Suthep Temple, Hmong Hilltribe Village and Bhubing Palace the Police will ban private vehicle on the road to them during New Year celebration.

To facilitate the traffic to the main sights of Chiang Mai at the Suthep Mountain such as Doi Suthep Temple, Hmong Hilltribe Village and Bhubing Palace the Police will ban private vehicle on the road to them during New Year celebration from 28 December to 2 January.

The travelers will be able to park their vehicles at the Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and use public transport - red pickups named “song taew”.  At the same period of the last year about 50,000 travellers visited Suthep Mountain, this year it expects much more people because of increasing popularity of Ching Mai among Chinese and Japanese tourists.

In the case this limitation will be effective it should be put on the other popular destinations such as Doi Inthanon and Doi Ang Khang.
