After two months of renovation the North Thai railway from Chiang Mai to Sila-At station in Uttradit should be reopened on 1 December. This date was moved from the original 1 November because of staff shortages and the large volume of work.

According to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) at this moment the repair work is 90 per cent completed. During repair barricades and ventilation were installed in four tunnels, defective rails and 50-years old sleepers were substituted.

SRT also plans to buy new locomotives with new engines for North railway to prevent frequent accidents in the future.
