The State Railway of Thailand reported, the repair works on the 300 km of northern railway between Chiang Mai and Sila-At station will take more time than expected. They should be finished by 30 November this year.

The demages, discovered during the work, were extremely significant. In particular it turned out that the wooden sleepers in some sections were not changed for 50 years! Another reason to prolong the repair is heavy rains and manpower shortage.

As SRT Governor Prapat Chongsa-Nguan said, SRT wants to ensure complete safety to passengers in the future in spite of all troubles in process of work.
