Cebu Hotels. Guesthouses and resorts
Like so many other cities in Southeast Asia, Cebu has a wide range of accommodation options that can fit everyone’s budget. From budget backpackers to those looking for the fanciest of five-star hotels, Cebu can provide options.
Budget
If you’re looking for options on the cheaper side, Cebu offers many hostels, guesthouses and travellers’ inns. A popular option for young travellers is the Sugbutel Bed & Bath Hostel. The hostel features air conditioning, a generator and a movie room with a large LCD TV. The cheapest rooms at the hostel can be had for PHP250, but if you want to be in a smaller dorm, you should be prepared to pay closer to PHP400. Be aware that the hostel charges extra for towels, blankets and pillows. The entire hostel is under 24-hour video surveillance so you can rest assured that it’s a safe place to spend the night.
Another good option for a hostel is Le Village, which was only completed a few years ago, so the rooms are all new. You’ll pay only PHP370 for a dorm room with a fan. For a dorm room with air conditioning, you’ll pay PHP500. If you want a private room, it’s PHP800 or PHP1300 for one with a fan and one with air conditioning, respectively. If you find yourself needing to make any purchases, the hotel is only a ten-minute walk to the Ayala mall.
Mid-range
If you’re looking for a private room, or for something a little bit nicer than a hostel there are plenty of mid-range hotels to choose from. Take for instance La Gloria Residence Inn, which is at the corner of Climaco and Borromeo Streets. Every room has internet, a television and air conditioning. In addition to well-appointed rooms, the hotel also offers a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, and spa. The hotel also has 24-hour security and laundry service available. Expect to pay around PHP1,500 nightly, but for the accommodations, it’s a pretty good price.’
If you want to stay on Mactan Island to take part in one of the many water-related activities there, you can check out the Nalusuan Island Cebu Resort and Marine Sanctuary. Rooms can be had for around PHP2,000, and the rooms are basic but the hotel offers activities like wave runners, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling and water skiing.
Top end
If you’re still looking for a fancier option, no problem, because you’ll be able to find it in Cebu. Many of the fanciest chains like the Hyatt, Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons have not yet made it to Cebu, but one famous five-star hotel has, the Mövenpick. The Swiss hotel chain bought the property from the Hilton and opened the Hotel Mövenpick Cebu a few years ago. The hotel is located on Mactan Island and is positioned on the northeast tip of the island. The beachside resort faces the Hilutungan Channel and is one of the nicest accommodations that you’ll be able to find in Cebu. It features all the amenities you would expect from a 5-star hotel including a restaurant, bar, fitness centre, spa, pool, and beachside services.
If you want to stay on Hilutungan Island, Island and Sun Beach resort is another nice option which will run you around PHP10,000 nightly. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the money, but know that you’ll be able to count on your room being air conditioned. You’ll also have a refrigerator and a bathtub, as well as other amenities that generally come with a 5-star resort.
