Bago Myanmar – Best Value Hotels and Guesthouses
Finding accommodation in Bago is easy enough although you won’t find a huge amount of choice.
One of the main issues in Bago is that it sits on a main road which means that all accommodation is likely to be noisy and if you are looking for a secluded enclave to lay your head then you are likely to be disappointed. To add to this, accommodation is more expensive in Myanmar than in its neighbouring countries in general, so finding very cheap hotels or guesthouses is an issue across all of the country – and Bago is no exception.
Budget
One choice if you are looking for the cheapest spot in town is the Mya Nan Da Hotel which is located on the Main Road and single rooms for USD 8 per night. These come with fans and a shared bathroom although if you pay USD 10 per night you can get a single room with a private bathroom and air conditioning. There are also doubles from USD 15 and these have breakfast included. As such, if you want to stay overnight and are not too bothered about luxury accommodation, this is one of the best picks in town for those on a budget.
Mid-Range
The most popular hotel in Bago is the Emperor and you will find touts at the bus station trying to funnel anyone arriving in town straight to the hotel. It is also located on the Main Road and is therefore also quite noisy and you will find single rooms from USD 10. Double rooms start at USD 18 and come with hot water and a bath. Breakfast however is not included but the hotel does have free Wi-Fi. If you want to try and get away from most of the noise then pick a room at the back of the hotel.
Another hotel on the Main Road that accepts foreigners is the San Francisco Hotel which is opposite the Emperor. Rooms here are clean and in better condition than the Emperor and you can get a single for USD8 and doubles for USD 10. They also have free Wi-Fi and double rooms with an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning for USD 18.
Do not expect any top-end choices in Bago – they are simply non-existent. If it is an issue, visit as a day trip from Yangon otherwise consider the above-mentioned San Fransicso.
