Myanmar Railways Receive New Carriages from South Korea

Myanmar's second busiest railway route between Mandalay and Myitkyina, in Kachin State, will get more comfortable train carriages soon. The new carriages will be added to trains from February, 13 this year.

Myanmar Railways, Myanmar's state-owned railway operator, revealed that the new carriages were purchased from South Korea through a loan program of the Korean government.

Featuring air-springs and air-conditioning, the new carriages will offer a more comfortable journey and enhance travellers' experience. The 10 upper-class air-conditioned carriages will accommodate 33 passengers each and will be attached to a dining car and a brake van.

The first batch of the new coaches has already arrived to Myanmar. Before putting them into service, inspection will be carried out at the carriage factory in Myitnge in Mandalay.

Myanmar's railway network is 1,025 km long and features 1225 stations. The busiest section connects Yangon with Mandalay and travels via Bago, Toungoo, Naypuidaw and Thazi. The MandalayMyitkyina section, which passes via Sagaing, a historial city and a religious pilgrimage centre, and Shwebo, transports over 10,000 passengers per day.

Two other important sections of Manmar railways are the YangonPyay and YangonMawlamyine.
