Bandung Indonesia – Our Choice of Hotels in All Price Ranges
Bandung is a big city and you won’t have your needs left unmet. Ranging from backpackers that come with even less frills that you would expect, to five star places that rival the The Ritz, families, couples, backpackers, flash packers, and all other people are well catered for. Keep reading.
Budget accommodation
There is an astounding amount of cheap accommodation in Bandung. At points, the cleanliness, included amenities, and general offerings can be a little disappointing. However, with a good bit of looking, you’re sure to come right with a well-priced, well-run spot.
Pinisi Backpacker has done really well to earn themselves a name in the market. The backpackers is basic, but does the little things well. Their free and reliable Wi-Fi, the comfortable common room that hosts enticing and lively conversations between travellers, free breakfast, and the general clean state of the rooms has made their spot one that is often frequented, and often written about.
With just so many options, there is a good chance you could find something equally good, or better just by walking around the city centre. RedDoorz is always a good stay. The rooms are simple, but clean and the service is always professional. You can grab a room with them for around 115,000 IDR.
Elanor’s Home is another good choice. With free breakfast at a similar price to a RedDoorz room, you’ll be filling your tummy while also helping the little man – two birds with one stone.
A rarity that borders on being an oxymoron is a well-decorated hostel. Cottonwood Bed and Breakfast, in the Kompleks Kumala Garden has somehow managed to do this. Although, to be fair, the price is on the higher end of the budget side. Their entire property makes you feel like you are walking through what Pinterest’s office must look like. The rooms, and café’ downstairs would make for a pretty cool Instagram post – just saying. Rooms go for around 365,000 IDR, which is an absolute steal. You should definitely visit, even if just for a coffee.
If you really want to skimp on the cost of accommodation and are flexible about what ‘the basics’ are, then you get away with spending less than 90,000 IDR a night. Your toilet will be ‘unappealing’ and your room very, very basic. However, with that extra cash you could easily go feed yourself at a nearby Warung. You may even be able to justify a couple of drinks. Consider your priorities and make the call!
Mid-range
If you head a little way outside of the city centre, the accommodation offerings take on a whole new shape. A far cry from the basic backpackers in the more central parts of town, you can expect beautiful pools and verandas that look over expanses of greenery.
For as little as 560,000 IDR, you could have yourself an incredible cosy and soothing room in the very impressive House Sangkuriang. The hotel has an infinity pool that looks over dozens and dozens of the greenest trees. Poolside tables make for a brilliant place to have breakfast, or a supremely romantic candle-lit dinner. Speak to the very competent staff about making that happen – it won’t be the first time somebody has asked. The hotel is located on Jl. Sangkuriang no.1 Dago, just a short trip out of the centre of town. The onsite restaurant is just another reason to stay here, but we won’t go ahead reveal the contents of the menu here. It can be said, however, that it is all so very good.
A good bit cheaper than what you might otherwise pay for amenities such as this is Mutiara Hotel. The hotel is well located in central Bandung, just a few hundred meters from Braga City Walk. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a free breakfast. The pool, though, is what makes this offer so worthwhile. Being so soothing, you’ll find yourself spending a lot of time here. We did. Rooms go for around 350, 000 IDR.
A similar offering to this is given by the Grand Sovia Hotel, located in central Bandung. With an infinity pool that looks over much of the city, it is hard to say which pool is better. The hotel rooms are well-decorated. So tasteful in fact, that they elevated themselves into the special sector of hotels that give you free slippers. The hotel has a good restaurant and bar that does well to make both Indonesian and Western cuisines so well. Adding to the list of reasons why this is such a good option is the Spa, as well as the very helpful staff at the front desk who can help you find a car to rent at the drop of a hat.
If you’d rather stay very central, but don’t want to lose out on the good stuff, Sukajadi Hotel has got you completely covered. The hotel has rooms that can go for as little as 350, 000 IDR if you get lucky. More regular prices hover around a figure closer to double that. The price tag, even at its absolute maximum is totally worth it. You’ll be treated to a brilliant view of the city, the great little pool, and all those good things that you expect when you check into fancy hotels. The hotel is located on Jl. Sukajadi.
High-end
Big families or groups of travellers would do well to secure a booking at Resor Dago Pakar Bandung. They have high-end villas with brilliantly furnished interiors and truly decadent infinity pools that look over the city. The villas can sleep up to 8 people and go for 3,500,000 IDR a night. Between 8 people, and considering the incredible place that you have all to your own, this is an absolute steal. The villa comes complete kitted with everything you would need to spend the rest of your life there really. Looking at the images on their website is enough to motivate a trip to Indonesia next weekend – you can make up an excuse for why you have to miss your best friend’s birthday. Or just tell them the truth, they’re quite likely to understand. The villas are located all over the city, which gives you flexibility in deciding where exactly you want to live in the lap of luxury.
Should you be a fan of room service, exceptional views, Egyptian cotton bed sheets and large bills, the Trans Luxury Hotel will make you feel right at home. A spa, an incredible pool and a luxurious lounge top off the flawless rooms. Everything is fantastic. The price for fantastic is around 2,000 000. The Trans luxury hotel is thirty minutes from the international airport and an hour away from Tangkuban Perahu Volcano.
Sensa Hotel in Bandung central provides strong competition to this, and could well be worth the difference in price. Their suite is equipped with a minibar, has a terrace that looks out onto the city, includes access to the spa and rooftop swimming pool, and quite possibly the best part of it all is this incredibly soothing bath. The room goes for a staggering 5,000,000 IDR. They do have cheaper rooms. These could well be worth checking out, but it’s hard to settle once you have found out about the suite.

Overall, there is little need to book in advance when heading to, or through, Bandung. The good amount of comfortable lodgings, and mass amount of cheap ones are sure to cover the needs of travellers visiting the small town. However, if you are looking toward the higher-end of things, it’d be wise to secure your dream holiday a good few weeks in advance – these things tend to get booked up.
